a friend and i have been wanting to go on a nighttime op to our old highschool. the only thing holding is back is that we dont know if the school has any alarms that would be triggered by opening a door or window. i was wondering if you could tell me what to look for to find out if they even have an alarm or not. thanks.

From the outside it will be a little tougher to tell. If any wires are running away from sensors attached to the doors or windows then there are probably alarms. You'd be better off scouting a bit during the day.

In my experience, I would say to be carefull, most high schools have security systems installed. There's always a high possibility of students trying to break in to vandalize the school (teenagers are always an angsty bunch), crooks trying to break in to steal computers, etc. If it's still open, I would advise you to stay away from it during the night-time. You may be able to get away with a bit more in the hours just after school lets out while cleaning crews are doing their thing, most doors will be unlocked.

dom, is it still active, or abandoned?

Like Shane said, I too would be very wary of an active high school's security. I know many of the schools I have seen have motion sensors all over the place, including the rooftops, and have camera's on some or most of the doors.

Public or Private school? If it is public, I would say it probobly has a medium level of electronic security. Private - I would say it depends on how much money they have, and what the administration is like, I could see one with almost no security, and could also see a private school that has a camera around every corner, and possibly a guard at nightime.

thanks for the welcome. the only thing ive explored before was a football stadium with my friends but that was before i knew about ue. i came across this site while i was searching for lock picks. picking is another hobby i picked up not too long ago.

as for the school, its definitely active, i graduated from it last year . they have a camera in the parking lot which takes a still every 30 seconds and another camera in one hall to the gym but i dont know if it takes still or not (or if its even real). its a pretty old private school; it doesnt even have air conditioning.

Pretty sure my PUBLIC school has over a dozen cameras (not to mention the fake plastic bubbles), +20 Motion detectors, student security during regular hours, and a paramedic/security guard at all times.

Not to mention the 5+ janitors on duty at ALL TIMES...

....all connected to eachother by radio.

Kinda makes you wonder why taxes are so high, lol...

I wonder whats behind THAT door?

My old high school had something like 30 cameras placed all over the hallways and large rooms. It really bothered me, because it made the place seem like a detention center or something. Nearly always being watched can probably stunt your creativity or something, too.

My high school had about 15 color surveilance cameras all linked into two 36" televisions in the principal and vice principals's offices. We also enjoyed the company of one full time duty pollice officer who was always trying to lean conversations in the direction of finding out where next weekends kegger was going to be... ahh, those were the days.

I was infiling a school that had several buildings that were in different stages of disrepair. One of the school's buildings had a alarm on it that imediatly went off as we opened the unlocked door. Go figure.

Reed sensors (the picture that "frozen" posted) can be disabled from the inside (entering from the roof) by simply unscrewing the magnet on the moving door and duct taping it to the sensor (note: some magnets have adhesive tape, along with screws applying it to the door, you can check for adhesive tape by running a razor behind it) you have to hold the magnet in the same place without moving it. if you fail to do this the alarm system will be activated. BTW alot of exit doors with these also have push-bar activated sirens built into the push bar, but I won't get into those.

p.s there ARE hidden reed sensors, they're circuler and fit in the door frame.
if the door frame isn't metal you can check for these with a strong magnet

I know my highschools has motion sensors that cover like 95% of the school.. Look up in the corners in hallways near the ceiling and you should see these things.. They will have a red light below the sensor, if the red light goes on its game over I always find it fun to try and make it through the hallways of my school without making a red light go off. I can never seem to do it though...

Wow, those are some pretty secure schools. I went to one of the biggest high schools in the state and the only security we had was the burly track coach who served as a hall monitor. Allthou we did have some motion sensors.

Well, I don't go to high school yet- but my jr. high has this:
7 outside cameras viewing many angles around the school (I know the blind spots... there ar ea few big ones)

7 inside cameras

a shit load of a PIR (although they are very crappy quality)

And that's about it... lol

Pity the poor agnostic dyslexic insomniac; he stays up all night, wondering if there really is a dog.

Schools in this area have a few cameras, "motion detectors", and night janitors. I can run around anywhere in the place anytime I like, but I also work for the stage crew. The main deterrent would have to be the head janitor that works nights. He's nice, but he could beat the shit out of a rather large bear. Quick, too. Anyway, look for cars in faculty lots, usually a good indication a crew is there. External cams are usually midheight on buildings, occasionally painted the same colour as the building. Also, some schools are sectioned off with large fullheight metal grates.

Just things to consider.

My old HS wasn't all that high-security, until Columbine came around. Since the distance between the two schools was perhaps a half-hour's drive, the administration got very particular about security very quickly. Suddenly, literally every hall had security cameras and motion sensors, including many redundancies, the school cops were substantially more nosey, and the school even hired some average joes as "security" (we called 'em "morality enforcers," mostly they just tried to intimidate students). Still no word on how much of the security is real and how much is for show, but I wouldn't try sneaking into that place at night. And of course, there's the nighttime janitors with radios.

It's like Narnia down here, except without all the satyrs.

Yea, well at the HS I Went to they had about 20 cameras, and a few people and myself decided to find out how to bypass them all, so we mapped out where they were, their viewing radius, and anything else that was needed. after a few days we were able to go all over the school without even being seen on camera. no real point to it, but it was an interesting execise.
