| | | OK folks, this is my stepson posting for the first time. I know the camera sucks, and you all helped me some with that the other day. What he is looking for is help with framing, angles, etc. These are things I am not good enough to help him with. I'd take it as a personal favor if you were gentle. He's 11. Thanks in advance.

| | | nice job shredder! that old general store is pretty cool edit: forgot to give feedback on the photography as far as angles and framing go be sure to get everything you want in the pic that you want people to see if using a point and shoot camera move it around and zoom in and out til the image on the LCD screen looks like what you want the pic to look like, otherwise you need to use the little lines inside the view finder which arent always right on point and shoots be aware of lighting try to shoot with the sun at your back for now if you must shoot into a shadow use your flash it fills in the dark areas you can trick the meter and auto focus on point and shoot cameras, push the shutter halfway down while the subject is in the middle, then keep holding the button halfway down and re-frame the shot as you like so our friend Otto Fokis wont try to look at the street or the trees behind or in front of your subject shoot lots and lots of pics [last edit 10/22/2007 12:39 AM by Explorer Zero - edited 1 times]

| | | Jonsered, I've been reading all the posts in Four Corners too and trying to keep up with you guys and I've been seeing you post about Shredder. Glad to see him on. Shredder, my advice to you is just keep exploring, learning, and posting pics. Learn about your pictures from everyone, but let the pictures be second to exploring places. Like someone else said, your pictures look a lot better than some of the folks who have been here for a long time. My pictures are not usually real good, I just love to explore places. Above all else... be safe. Learn about that from as many people as you can. My son is almost 11. He likes to explore too. Thanks for posting and welcome to UER.

This is a good point. No cop of guard will ever mess with a little kids. All Shredder has to do is say he is working on a school project. Man, I wish I was a kid again.

| | | I was going to say, even before reading any of the replies to this thread, that those places look pretty cool. I wouldn't mind exploring that store in Valentine, TX myself. It looks pretty neat.
Also, MHInc is right... sometimes you just have to post pictures of places you explored to share what the place looked like, not to show how artsy you can be with your pictures. Sometimes artsy is great, but sometimes I just want to see what the place looks like, not some super duper close up macro shot of a crack in a wall. Anyway, I think the shots are great in showing us what these places looked like, and I think it's awesome that you're only 11 and exploring. I explored when I was 11, but of course didn't have parents cool enough that I could tell them about any of the things I looked at. And of course, I didn't get to see any cool places like these, thats for sure.
I think you're off to a great start and I really do look forward to seeing more pictures/places from you in the future.

| | | Thanks all for the comments! Way better to have him exploring than playing video games and smoking dope. I'm going to encourage this all I can. I asked for critique here because the photo critique forum is no place for an 11 year old with a lousy camera. THey would just rip him up and that doesn't help him get better. Southerners tend to be more genteel!

That's why I don't post there. Everyone there seems to have something to say in order that you may know that they are the best photographers the world has to offer. I'd love to get some ideas and thoughts sometimes, but not at the expense of being told how ridiculous it is to even ask "such a question". Anyway, as for shredder, I agree. Much better to get kids interested in something other than video games. And his photo's are always welcome in the south forum just like anyone elses.

| | | Obviously, the most important thing is to just keep exploring. Taking pictures is well and all, especially if you are into photography, but sometimes I like to explore without a camera. If you do want to get good at taking pictures, just keep on doing what you are doing - taking pictures. Take lots, and you'll get good.

| | | Great stuff shredderman! You have some good advice to go on. Since there is so much cool stuff to see when you go exploring sometimes I make the mistake of trying to fit all that cool stuff in one picture. Nothing wrong with breaking it up some and taking a couple of shots from different angles.
A mirage is not an optical illusion. It is a real phenomenon, and one can take photographs of it. The interpretation of the image, however, is up to the fantasy of the human mind. |
