| | | Well I found an abandoned house in my area after much searching, but it has quite a few wasp nests. the inside seems to be wasp free, most are in the outside. My friend went with me to find a way in and walked away with a sting on his head. Is there an way of getting rid of the pests? or some kind of spray I can use?

| | | There are various sprays, and smoke will make them sleep and become lazy, but either one would look highly suspicious anyway you plan it and might make someone call the police or fire department. Best advice is long sleeves, jeans, hat and run like hell and use your head. Sometimes just gotta call it quits and in this case wait until winter.
Surrounded by empty mines and trains that just don't run. Oh, my God. Holy shit. Fuck! I grew up with that lampshade. I love this kitchen. I fucking love this kitchen! |

...But honestly I wouldn't go in, unless I know the Bee's are gone, as they can be quite violent, and the stings hurt like bitch. Use caution as you don't want this to happen: [last edit 8/31/2007 12:37 AM by Vacant NJ - edited 2 times]

| | | I personally like this spray over the stuff that hardware stores usually sell: http://www.amazon....rnet/dp/B000E1PKXM Non-toxic, smells nice, works just as good as the toxic stuff and has killer range.

| | | I hear really hot soapy water will get them out. Will probably make them angry too.

| | | I had a similar problem at my local abandoned house. A wasps nest was set up in a pile of smashed concrete outside, and i got stung twice within seconds for walking across it. There's one fairly easy (although dangerous) way of getting rid of bees. Take a rag, soak it in gasoline, and after you light it on fire, drop it into the area where the bees are. This SHOULD take care of them, as long as you get the rag in the area where they are. Otherwise just make a molotov cocktail hahaha.

| | | Let's look at the options of a spray or gas. Sprays come self-contained, compact size. Chillingly effective and act with zero damage to the surrounding area. They can also spray up to twenty feet and be applied a nests on the ground, walls or ceilings. Gasoline is cheaper than sprays but you have to provide your own container that's rated for gas and will be bulkier than a spray can. It's as effective as fire can be (Which isnt very.) and can catch fire to the surrounding area. On top of that you're limited to range and where the nest is. I think the final nail in the coffin for using gas for bee killer in UE would be you're not going to explain why you have a bottle of gas, lighter and a rag to anyone. Arson charges ensue. Just an observation.

| | | The other thing to consider is that they're least active in the morning and the evening (trust me, I live in central California and we have tons here). So if you get there during the day, you're more likely to have less-than-desirable results (including being stung). So I'd say wait until they're in the nest, then fire away. I generally like the store-bought sprays, which are fairly effective, but I understand that WD-40 or similar sprays will work pretty well, too.

| | | couple tricks, since I have to deal with them on my property. I find they don't bother me unless I step on the nest or get very close within arms reach. I spray them in early evening when they are back at the nest. I use the foaming spray because it covers the nest and blocks their escape while it does it's job. I've heard this and tried it, but can't vouch for it's effectivness: If you need to pass a wasp nest, hold your breath. Bees and wasp can't see well but they sense CO2 from your breath. Also, don't ever kill a wasp. It releases a chemical signal to the colony or others nearby and they will attack. Soapy water is supposed to work if you spray it directly on them.

| | | I say kill em all if attacking. If not, move surely and you'll be good. Wasps don't usually give a rats ass about you.....Unless you poke their nest or knock it down. If so give it an hour for them to adjust. But I just don't like them. And really how often is it that you encounter them? Half the time you're past them before you know you're near a nest.
