Abandoned Navy Building

My first post here in the Photo section.

Went with a couple of friends to the former Treasure Island Navy Base just outside of (but technically part of) San Francisco. We found a way into a building that was once a family and medical services building. It had a dental clinic on the top floor, but unfortunately there was no old corroded dental paraphernalia. The building was largely cleared out, including a good deal of wire poaching by copper thieves.

1 - overheated

2 - empty ward (HDR)

3 - cavity

4 - this won't hurt a bit

5 - root canal

I really like 3. 1 needs to be composed better, and 2 and 4 could be improved by changing angles but have great colours.

Not bad, but keep working on it. 2 is best, 3 looks odd....it looks like maybe the radius on the USM is too high.

I like the shot in your avatar.

4 is interesting to me. apparently the electricity was still on? i half expect to see a doctor in a lab coat leaning over a table. or something.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I wasn't too sure about these shots, this was my first outing with my new camera (I went from a PowerShot S80 to an XTi), and I found myself up against a steeper learning curve than I expected. Plus, I was fighting with my tripod (it's a video tripod, very hard to get vertical shots with).

I am the Bear, the electricity wasn't on, what you're seeing is a small bit of light coming through a hole in the ceiling, bouncing off the wall. The same situation is causing the cast of light in #2 as well.

Desmet the shot in my avatar is from an abandoned train station in Oakland, my friend took a shot of me while I was doing something with my camera. I'll post some shots from there soon.

I agree. After looking at it again I noticed it was HDR. Bravo for using it with restraint as that stuff can rot your brain.

I think my favorite part may be the location, as I figured it was on The East Coast somewhere, but sure enough much closer to home.

Thanks man, yeah, I try to use HDR where I think there will be a benefit, in this case I figured the end of the hallway wouldn't get blown out. I'm really not into the overcooked look that so many HDRs have.

I'd like to see more interiors at TI, but most of the buildings are locked up tight. I know someone that got into the bowling alley recently, I'm seriously jealous!

Have you found the "Pacific/Southwest Forum" yet: http://www.uer.ca/...sp?fid=1&catid=302

There's a good group of UER folks in the Bay Area.

#3 is my favorite from this set. I love the blue greenish blurred out corridor in the distance. It also has a great contrast of sharp (literally) edges and the soft BG.

Sweet shots!
