Fort Smith Rim & Bow was a sawmill built in the early 1900's. The location was shown in a 1915 silent film entitled "The High Road to Fortune," directed by W.P. Wilson. The film presented the hero as an inspector, which gave Rim & Bow and other locations in Fort Smith an opportunity to be featured. Based on a fictional storyline, "The High Road to Fortune" focused on showing off what Fort Smith had to offer.

On April 16, 2007 sometime around midnight, a fire of unknown causes destroyed most of the buildings at the location. According to Fort Smith fire department, the buildings were already engulfed in flames upon their arrival, which took them only a few minutes. By morning, most of the 50,000 square foot building was gone.

Rim & Bow, which was being renovated, was built in an old-fashioned manner with a wooden frame and a sheet metal exterior. With it's structural framework and contents, this surely contributed to it's untimely end.

Wow... great post! I love it when people take the time to put some history into the thread along with the pictures. Great job.

Its a shame that building burned. I bet at one time it was an awesome exploration.

Thanks, I'm trying to make a habit of finding a location's background... sometimes it's not so easy with houses and such.

Went back to U.S. Forgecraft yesterday and got some more photos. Found a pretty sweet glass factory too! Whether I can find some history on it or not, I'll be posting pictures soon.
