Irish castle/abbey ruins

This is my first time so some pictures might repeat accidentaly.

This is a castle built in the early 1200's around Galway Ireland. It was origianaly heavily fortified until the late 1500's for some reason. That is all I know. It has a path to hike on for people ,but no one goes here anymore because it is so far out into the irish country side. it looks as though the hiking part of it has long since been dismissed only leaving a gravel path and a couple metal sign holders? The last picture is a preview of my next UE adventure of a 600 year old Irish Abbey maybe?

Hey, since this is in Photo Critiques, I'll make a few critical comments.

1) I think there's a fingerprint on your lens. It's in sorta the top leftish corner of these pictures.

2) Besides the fingerprint blur (or whatever it is) a couple of others are, like. . . WAY blurry. Number 3 comes to mind. Try a tripod to help this. Also, if your camera has a self timer, it can be a really useful tool in getting crisper shots once you've mounted the camera on the 'pod.

3) I like number 4, but I would like it better with less castle and a little more of the scene through the hole, as it were.

4) The shot with the daisies would be really cool if it were in focus.

I know very little about the ins and outs of composition or anything like that, so these are just the first things that came to mind. Pretty interesting location for a history nerd such as myself.

I have a friend here in Seoul who was a (primarily medium format) photographer from near Galway. As a rookie, I'm usually too embarrassed to let him see my 35mm photographs though!

that is so irrelevant! Most of the people who will be viewing your pic's (except from here maybe) will know nothing about photography. For them it's just: looks good or doesn't look good (and i personally would change the word look into feel).

i prefer the 'honest' opinion from people who don't know what they're talking about but are just spectators.

Content = Amazing.

As far as the photos, get a tripod and clean your lens.

Very awesome location! Work on the compositions and focus of the shots, and shots from here will be GOLD! I want to see more of the abbey! It looks creepy as hell.. ^_~

I agree with you on this. I think the reason I put that bit about composition was because I didn't want it to seem like I was shitting on the original poster without offering any advice on how to improve his shots. As much as I don't really care too much about following "rules" it can be helpful to know a few, even if it's just so you can break them. ;)

I agree with LangP about 4. Crop out the line on the left frame, and maybe remove the hole on the bottom right, and that image will become far more striking.

The main problem with your photos is the lighting. There's a reason why 5-8 don't look as good as 10 or 11. The foreground is too dark under the bright sky. You either need to blow out the sky so it's totally white or wait until the Sun is hitting the structure from a different direction.

What part of the county is this in? Galway has some real nice abbeys. http://www.uer.ca/...ow.asp?locid=26406
This is only one of many abbeys I have been in. Although people of Mayo are weird, they have many abbeys, like in Cong. Mayo has a lot of thinks to see.
