it was only about 3/4 of a mile until I reached the dead end, I picked up some pretty good speed though, it was kind of sketchy goin that fast without knowing what was ahead.

Helmut blocks your overhead view, but it's only a matter of time.
A sideways fall will prove unforgiving as well.
