If it's a piston type, mostly used in three stories and less, it's most likely gonna come within 2'as there is nothing needed on top it's all below. In most hi-rises, there will be steel plates at the top that the cables run through, these will most always be closed and only open if someone is working on the top of the cab in the raised position. if your thought was a way into the equip room, that wont usually get ya there, it will in about 80% cases squash you at the top, that is if you make it that far without getting tangled in the cables first. Also, remember to keep everything within the perimeter of the cab, weights, steel, cables and various things come within 1" if the side of the cab and will lop off a hand real quick.
