Sticks in the mud

New Orleans storm damage is in-your-face; buildings and cars may be
shattered and wadded up, but they're there. Out in the delta
country often the only evidence that structures existed is the upright
pilings they were built on. With so much open water around, a lot of
the storm debris was simply swallowed up once it was torn from its
foundations. Hence these weird forests of upright pilings.
