I agree with those who said just park in front and walk up to it like you have business there. The general public, and even most cops, won't give a hoot, or even notice someone wandering around an abandoned building in broad daylight with nothing to hide. It's the sneaking around and dark clothing thatn people will notice.
A good tip is wear a pair of clean jeans with a light colored collar knit shirt and tuck it in. You'll look like a plain jane code inspector, realtor, or contractor.
In general, you either need to be visible, but not draw attention to yourself, or go into SEAL mode for abandonments.

If you can stuff your gear in a backpack you can walk around with it.
I'd say you park a few hundred meters away and just walk there. Just don't be dressed up all ninja...
A walking man is just not suspicious at all, you don't even make noise with the engine and such. I'd never park directly on-site.

Also, the best approach to a building is:

sorry for the lame joke.

regardless of what anyones tells you there is no prefect method for anything, because every building is different. if you really want some advise then never underestimate at scouting trip, that should tell you what you need to know. also remember to keep your plan flexible you never know when a excursion will throw you a curve ball.

get out there, experience is better then advise any day of the week

best of luck,
dkme
