Those have been there forever. They are starting work on the pedestrian bridge first. Dunno when they'll start the buildings though. I read they cut down on the campus to save money though (inflated labor costs. Also interesting I thought was that they said there is so much work going on around, they had a hard time even getting bids). They are delaying building 2 of the buildings, so maybe that's why.

Another factor slowing down construction of the campus is their plans for incorporating the river as an integral part of its design. Seems the Army Corps of Engineers has a different way of looking at waterways, post-Katrina, and significant portions of the plans went back to the drawing board. Here's a snippet from an article posted on the project's dallasmetropolis.com thread:
TCC campus faces setback

FORT WORTH - Construction of a flood wall at the new Tarrant County College campus in downtown Fort Worth is an unexpected development that could delay construction of the campus and likely push costs beyond the current estimate of about $234 million.

Before the college district can begin construction on the portion of its planned campus on the north side of the Trinity River, it must build a flood wall to protect the levee during construction, the college has been told by the Army Corps of Engineers.

[...] Wells said he did not know how much it will put the project behind schedule because the college can shift its plans and work on the southern sections of campus first. The campus is planned to open in fall 2008.

[...] In other action, TCC's board of trustees Tuesday approved a $916,000 contract extension with Whitehead and Mueller environmental consulting and construction company to remove contaminated soil on the block of land that it recently got in a trade with Tarrant County.

Remediation has already been done on the site, at Belknap and Commerce streets, but more contamination was found when a building was demolished on a corner lot, Wells said.

I have a hard time wrapping my brain around demolition of the Armour plant as it's still an operational and occupied plant. It's Bunge Edible Oils right now. I went by that area today and, although I didn't go in, I did notice that it looks like someone has been doing something at Swift. There's a section of fence down and it looks like someone with some heavy equipment has been excavating (yeah, I know that's a big word for me) the foundation of one of the buildings lost during the fires and other devastation of the '70s digging up brick and concrete and pushing that against one of the other buildings. Maybe they're trying to keep people out of the buildings but it seems to be a half-assed job if that's the plan. I also noticed that reconstruction of the headquarters building (the Old Speg. Warehouse) seems to be moving right along. It looks like they are bricking in the parking garages just to the south of there and they've dug out a section around it maybe to use as parking. They've just cut a flat area out of the ground there and you can see a layer of brick piled ontop of a concrete foundation layer. Seeing that they've uncovered stuff like that made me think that some historical foundation could put a total freeze on the area if they got the notion and funding for a historical survey and dig. But, it all depends on what the local bureaucratic politicos will try to get away with to get re-elected.

i havent heard anything about tearing it down, the armour plant had a for sale sign out last time i was there, the old spaghetti warehouse has been completely renovated, and the swift ruins were being cleared of all the overgrowth and garbage so the can film a tv show there, thats what the equipment and trucks were in there for. the swift ruins are also under 24 hour security due to the filming so i would stay out of there untill the fall when it will go back to being abandoned
