Will these get you in trouble?

I haven't felt the need for a multi-tool or knife, crowbar, lockpicks or anything else that could escalate you from trespass charge to B&E or Carrying thieves tools.
However, one thing i'm tempted to begin carrying is fence climbers.
Has anyone used them? and if so do they make a big difference? and will they get you in any extra trouble, are they considered "thieve's tools"

here's a link to some i've been checking out:

If you've got a huge fence your worried about, go for it. Personally I think they'd take more time to use than to climb it solo.

A screwdriver is called a burglary tool, if that answers your question...

I guess i'm thinking about having them on hand for some specific location with a particularly high fence which gave me a lot of trouble on the weekend. To me they look fairly non-descript, but I guess cops probably know what they are when they see them.

Unless the mesh of the fence is too tight to be able to get your fingers through, you're better off just climbing it the old fashioned way.

I like this "Zak Tactical Fence Climber Kit

This product was designed to provide public safety personnel the ability to accomplish safe ingress over chain link fences. The climbing steps can be rapidly deployed and require no special training. Most fences can be scaled with the standard 3-piece set.The entire kit weighs about five pounds and fits easily in your SWAT equipment bag."

Although I doubt a stupid cop would actually know what that is, it could be misconstrued as a weapon. Stick to climbing aiders kid ...lighter and can be stuffed into a small sack.

what makes you think cops are any more stupid than you are? i can understand some degree of mistrust, considering what we do can have consequences, but that sort of comment is just juvenile.

BTW, yes these tools will get you charged if you get caught by someone who is disposed to prosecute you.

The reply from Air33 is a great response, I hadn't seen that small rope foothold type climber before and it's definitely more worth looking into the metal ones. thanks for the heads up!

Make yur own.
Just bend up some 1/8" rod and then yu won't have to worry about leaving yur 33$ Tactical folding fence climber behind. And if yu think yu could pull it off, Attach them to yur belt and claim its a fashion statement. =P
I can't rly see them getting that mad over some rod. Assuming its not in the shape of a weapon..
And if yur too lazy to make yur own, grab some wood and jam it into the fence. Works rly well if yu put it though a corner and leave some sticking out the otherside. If find that normally enough to get yur foot on the top of the fence and something to plant them on on the other side.
Just find some fence and mess around alot before yu do the real thing. Weather that be freeclimbing or with tools.

How exactly would that help anyone get over a tall fence? You'd have to climb up to the top just to be able to secure the thing properly.

these are designed to help people loaded with gear over fences, not just high fences.

Those steps are pointless unless you have 70lbs of shit strapped to your body.

Or if yu want to Step over the barbed wire on the top. or yur with someone who ish not in the best shape. Personally i find footholds useful... in some cases.

Really thats what it's about. i don't know about you but my foot cannot fit into the holes of a standard chainlink fence. and it's especially awkward to try and do an 8 foot fence.. a solid one, with a bookbag and tripod on your back. i mean i did it but my hands were killing me afterwards, i'm just looking for anything to make it a little easier.

here's another thing i've seen. DIY solution, although i don't know that i'd trust my weight to it..

Gotta Love those Activists....
Well. i think is all about pratice.
Me being well over 6foot, i just climb/jump up enough to grab the top bar, and hoist myself up and over. But i see wut yu mean about bags and shit. I carry nothing on me, that my buddys job. and jumping off a tenfoot fence and not knowing how to land can rly mess yu up. Just mess with the fences. find a nice park with some 7' or 8' stuff and play around. and as for hands hurting try some CCM biking gloves. there my U3 glove of choice, and there semi-waterproof.
For the link yu found.. i would still stick with the FenceClimbers, they stick though to the other side.. which can be rlyrly nice at times.just for fun i think tomorrow i shall bend up some and and find some fences... getting tired of the last minute piece of wood.
Good Luck!

That little field expedient step is pretty slick. You could achieve the same result and have a quieter, more easily packed....package, by using some utility rope run through a 4" piece of garden hose, and a carabiner at the top.

How is it pointless, u can actually step in them./ Hook a cari on and go....if u get a tall one (You'd need two) post one up as high as you can then just climb up and do the same again going down. You should remember some people can't launch themselves over a fence and this is small and not nearly as dodgy looking at the metal steps posted earlier.

My shoes have never fit inside the fence (women's size 7) but perhaps I should have tabi boots or climbers shoes on.
