old train

so right down the street from me is a huge field with 3 train cars derailed just lying in the field.

unfortunately, there is a house about a 100 ft away from the train, and i am hesitant to go near it, because i don't know the people who live there (its a pretty rundown house, so i dont really want to risk getting shot by some rednecks), and i dont want to go try and meet them. i also don't know if its even unlocked, the doors are shut and i might not even be able to get into it.

suggestions? ill try and take a picture of it when i get home and throw it up here.

pay your best friend five bucks to go knock on the door and ask permission while you wait at the end of the driveway. That is what friends are for.

Amazing. Brilliantly thought of Silvernail!

As for the train, I say just try it. Unless of course it's on their property. But if not, try it, they can come out and say "Hey" and then you can walk away, or run, depending on whats in there hand. May it be a beer, or a 12 gauge...good luck. I would really like to see these photos.

I would go to see it. Its not like THEY own the train. I guess if its on their property, they might get mad at you for that... but if you take a camera and a tripod, they might think you're some big time reporter just getting pics for a paper or something. If you do go, try to look like you belong... walk with confidence, don't look like you're trying to be all ninja and stuff, hiding behind trees and such. Just walk right up, take some pics, look around. If they see you, wave hi to them. (unless of course they have a gun... in which case run or something... )

Or tell them you're a model train enthusiast. The person may be one as well and would not have a problem with you taking pictures. Heck, they may also point out some details that you may miss and give you a complete history of the train.

Also, they may just own the train. Possibly bought the cars for who knows what.

Is it next to train tracks? If it is, just walk down the tracks and get to them. But don't get hit by a train. ^_^ If it isn't just walk to them through the field, and act like you aren't scared, even though you may be. Its kind of like going into abandoned buildings. Someone might see you outside looking at it and taking pictures, and think nothing of it. The doors to the cars are probably rusted shut, or padlocked, etc.

it is possible they own the train. one of my friends used to have a boxcar in their field they bought for storage. and beleive me it was probably 40 miles from the nearest train tracks. I was recently going to go photograph it because i know who owns it and they didnt care, but they cut it up and hauled it away for scrap.

They don't come much easier than this, unless you're going to stick to armchair exploring.

DO IT!

haha okay man; interesting story. I went over about 2 weeks ago, and i just snuck after i saw the guy drive away with my friend. we had to sneak in through a window, but we didn't wanna get cut up or any of that shit, so it took us about 15 minutes. by the time we finally got in, i had taken two pictures, and then the guy pulled up in his car.

we pretty much tried to hide, but there was pretty much no where. so we pulled an old board out of the way and jumpde out. i just got 2 pictures off, its nothing special, here they are.

(from inside)

(this is the one i got off when my friend was pointing at the guys car yelling at me to hurry up)

now that i think about it, it was STUPID of me not to get a picture of the actual train from a distance. and i went back 2 days ago, and there was a blue tarp covering it, and another friend of mine apparently knows the guy who owns the train, and he's getting it renovated and selling it to some guy in providence. im going to try and get a couple more pictures when i get home.

I may not believe in marriage, but I do believe in best men.

I thought you meant like, TRAIN train, not subway cars. It would've been much more interesting that way.

I agree that you should've just asked the people that live there about them. If they're your neighbors I'm sure they wouldn't think you were too strange. Maybe you're not as friendly with your neighbors as I am with mine, though.

"See you guys, you never listen to me. I said there was gonna be trouble but you didn't listen to me. You guys are crazy. You know, you guys are self destructive. There's a funny farm and it has your names written all over it. But I'm gettin' out of here. I'm... I smell ice cream!"

Dude! Honestly Just ASK the guy if you can take some pics of the train because you think it's great! I am sure he will let you without arguement, if he is restoring it, he would most likley actually appreciate you wanted to take pics of it!
