It was used to cart supplies, but the owners are stating that it was used to transport bodies. It does make the tunnel seem more plausible and "spooky" that way -- especially since the tours are focused around the ghostly aspects of the place.

As for the porta-potty comment... wow. I guess the neighbors did have valid complaints after all



My first time there, years and years ago, they told me it was used to move bodies to the bottom of the hill because they didn't want to dishearten patients with hearses constantly on site. Instead the hearse was waiting at the bottom of the tunnel. This was before the guard's job was to give you a "ghost tour." Both make sense.
