Some noob posted an actual question re: how to jack copper/is there a safe way to, etc. in the BC section.

Read Tanuki's response. It's fukken witty.

Yeah, that's not very cool. I thought the anti-theft policy here was clear enough.

they should be considered very dangerous. remember to keep your distance, and use your skills to keep out of sight. the hobby isn't the only thing they will fuckup.

This is NOT an exaggeration. I was just out geocaching in an old quarry near here and a pair of them actually took a couple shots at me when they saw me watching with binos. It sounded like a .22 and I'm pretty sure they weren't trying to hit me, but I'm definitely going to handle it. My "no CCW when trespassing" rule is out the window now when I go there.

Please don't be stupid. It might piss me off so much that I have a seizure or something. I hate stupid people.

Yea, I was shot at once while taking photos in an alley. It scared the fucking shit out of me. I don't think I've ever ran that fast. At first I thought it was just a nail gun or something and ignored it, but then when I saw a bullet hit the door in front of me I fucking bolted.

I guess whoever was shooting at me thought I was an investigator or something.

I'm normally the anti-killing hippie, but I'm getting a fucking pistol the day I turn 21. I have good enough aim and know enough about human anatomy that I can hit somebody without killing them, but incapacitate them. I do think killing is wrong unless you absolutely have no choice. If you can, run, if not, incapacitate.

That's a good philosophy to follow if you want your gunfighting career to be very, very short....and end the same time your life does.

if you want to see how foolish that idea is, put up a full size human silhouette target, run a mile, then instantly pick up a pistol and from 10 yards try to hit the target 3 times. when it's for real all the bullshit changes and none of that silly stuff works.

In the time you have taken to draw your gun, go over what you learned it anatomy, and aim they have drawn theirs and have fired several rounds into you. If faced with death do not hesitate to do all you have to in order to survive.

Once my friends encountered some copper thieves. As I remember there were three of them and one who saw my friends and waved them over. They told them to leave and not call the police and informed them they were "armed and ready to fight" if they did.

I would fire them up, one way or another. The fact that someone is making threats like that or has brandished a gun means it time to get them off the street.

You run to these guys, 911 them.

copper thieves are a menace. i was so upset to see the other week that my favorite naval base was being attacked by them. they were going into the ceilings and cutting all different types of copper pipe out. i guess they had left the place for the day and had left all of their tools in a duffel bag. hacksaws, pipe, wire, & bolt cutters, you name it. i took their mag lite. they really raise up the heat on places.

Whenever I find their tools, I destroy them. Same with cans of paint. Fuck them.

Keep an eye on the place and hook these shitbirds up!

They're easy to find once you know they're fucking up a place. Remember, on any state or federal property, they are stealing from you. Many state governments and especially the feds will hammer these shitbirds if you help them too. Doing this also gives you and UE's a good name with the cops.

I say fed them to the dogs.

Thanks HillbillyHorus, I almost missed that

Gordo, prolly better not get that gun; your not ready from it. You get one chance not to make a mistake with a gun. Guns are used to kill.

When you shoot a person it's with the intent to kill them. No such thing as 'winging' a guy. Even a .22 in the femur artery will prove lethal. You don't have the luxury of pin point accuracy with a an assailant most times either, even if you keep your head. Two shots dead center to the mid-center. If you don't incapacitate them, they can continue their attack; dying men can and do kill.

Never point a gun at someone unless you intend to shoot them.
Always observe this rule with all guns, even unloaded guns.

Someday it will save someone's life you know!

Yes please none of this Im only going to injure him bullshit.
When you shoot you shoot to kill.

And to the guy who was shot at in the quarry, I doubt those where copper theives most likely drug dealers, moon shiners or the like.
I doubt someone would shoot at you for scrap metal.

In any case its probably not a good idea to go exploring with a gun. You're going to get in to some serious issues with the police if you get caught with a pistol. Even if you were to have a concealed weapons permit it would probably be an issue. And anyways I'd hope you wouldn't want to drop to some thugs level of thinking. Guns kill someones son, daughter, father, mother, brother or sister. All ways.

Even if you a permit to pack, you always try to avoid trouble when on the street; and walk/run away rather than use the gun if possible. Before you get a firearm, you need to learn a lot about the laws in your state, about how that gun works, and how you think, and will react.

It's a very bad idea to pack UEing while trespassing. You could easily end up with a mandatory 5 year sentence after cops mistake you for a burglar.

Confronting copper thieves on someone else's property is a bad idea; I would call 911, and get tag number(s) and pics if you can safely. Wait for police and testify against the thieves, if need be.

Never explore with copper thieves or present. Always consider them to be armed and dangerous. Remember they may also have lookouts.

What makes people do such things, I do not now :-/

Extreme poverty. People in extreme poverty have fewer choices than most of us. The way police stop this kind of thing is simple. They have the scrappers fill out paper work, defining where the materials came from, they have to provide ID, in some places the pay from the materials comes a week or so after the stuff has benn turned in for recycling. Same thing with manhole covers. wrap a pile of red tape around it, mix with several tons of paperwork. done
