1. Needs a better composition, The unfocused thing in the picture is annoying,
2. No subject, All you can see is a speck of flaking paint and a blown out window, Try raising you apeture(sp).
3. cool. but again composition.
4. I like dead babies.
5. you got the focus on the wall in back of you and not on you or the mirror.
all and all not bad. Let me see some more.

1. The big thing in the foreground is distracting, avoid large unfocused objects in the foreground.
2. The focus is too small, it seems that only a little strip of the paint is in focus, too much blur surrounding it.
3. I do not know how I feel about that one.
4. Of all of your pictures in this set, this is one is my favorite, the lighting is just a little strange, too much abdomen, not enough face.

They seem alright, but nothing really seems to take my eye away. 2 seems creative, but I don't really know what I'm looking at or what point it makes.

If you can't beat them, shoot them!

I think you need to really think about not only what but how your shooting. Capture more than just the subject, bring its environment and place in the world along with it. What your shooting doesnt always have to be the center of the the pic. And make sure to always shoot a couple of shots for what you think is going to be important, fiddle with the aperture.

1. There is too much empty space against the left wall, and I feel like the rectangle on the right is going to poke me in the eye when I look at it. On the other hand, despite the eye-poking, I like the focus you used, and the in-focus subject is very intriguing. I think that if you sort of combined that first one and the re-shoot, using your angle to eliminate the empty space on the left while still keeping the rectangle out of focus and close, it would be perfect.

2. I think this would have looked better from the other side of the wall, so that the blown-out window doesn't distract way too much from the really cool paint peels. Maybe take this from the other side and use an angle that points more toward the wall. I've found that at least half of what it takes to turn an ok picture into a great picture is your choice of angle.

3. The stairs (which I think were your focus, maybe I'm wrong are just a bit out of focus, but other than that and the blown-out window, this is really eye-catching. It expresses a lot of different, clashing angles and levels very well.

4. This is creepy and I love it. In my opinion, it's the best shot in the series. I don't have anything to disagree with here.

5. Ah, the classic "photographer in the mirror" shot. Other than being a tiny bit out of focus, this is good. I like that you chose a mirror that's a bit grungy and warped.

Overall, these are pretty good. I think there's a bit you could improve on but your photos show art, not just documentation, and I'd imagine that's what you want. I know it's what I do.

I think you need to stay focused on what you want to shoot. I'm having trouble seeing what you want me to see in these pictures if that makes any sense haha

1.) A different angle might have been better, so the object in the foreground isn't there, perhaps from above at the same angle.

2.) Serious depth of field issue! A tripod, the smallest aperture you could get, and a longer shutter speed might have helped this out. Though I do like the texture you captured in the in focus area.

3.) Not sure what you were going for, but all the different angles and the lighting make for an interesting shot.

4.) Strange lighting, flash perhaps? Snap-shot. All things considered, not bad.

5.) You can't always let the autofocus do everything, get in there and manually control it, you're in control of your pictures, not the camera. ;)

A technique I learned on my own before any photography classes, tutorials, or help was simply looking though the view finder and critiquing what I saw. I don't think anyone even really teaches this, not even in any BS photo class I've ever taken. Set aside exposure and everything else... if you don't like what you see thought the view finder, its probably not a good shot. Try moving around till it looks 'pretty sweet' to you. Take the picture for you at that point.. don't think about what others will see or say, make sure you actually like the shot. There have been countless times I thought a photo would look cool, or others will like it, but upon sitting there thinking about taking it, I scrap the whole shot because I realize it really doesn't excite me at all. I've totally gone out shooting all night long only to come back with only 1 photo that I actually shot. So avoid garbage cliché internet shots (such as a tilted or 45 degree angle shot) that you saw on the internet, get out there, look around thought the view finder and take a picture when it really looks exciting.

Also one thing you may want to note, when you look at other photos that do excite you, think long and hard about why you actually liked them and if you really did like them. Sometimes you only like the work because its by your favorite artist or there is something neat in the photo like a fancy car. Once you're sure you like the shot try and apply that during your initial setup of a similar situation. Attempt to recreate situations and see if they work. If it doesn't, try something else.

If all goes as planned, you'll develop a style that you fully enjoy, and hopefully others will too.
