| | UE Documentary - Into the Darkness < on 2/13/2007 5:26 PM >
| | | Hey Everyone - I'm sure most of you explorers out there know of the UE documentary "URBAN EXPLORERS: INTO THE DARKNESS". I'm helping Melody out with a bit of promotion if you will,to try and gather as many people as possible to attend the Boston showing. It will be on Saturday, March 24 @ 5:15pm. There will be only one screening as part of the Boston Underground Film Festival. Check out www.myspace.com/bostonunderground - the trailer is up there as well. As soon as we know which theatre will be used, we'll let you know! In the mean time, please help spread the word! Melody is very excited about meeting all us UE folks in New England! For those of you in or near CA, the date for the actual premiere is Friday, March 2 at 7pm. There is also a screening on Saturday march 3 at 4:45 @ the Cinequest Film Festival in CA (San Jose area). I know Melody is looking for a full house at all showings and would really like to generate some excitement and momentum for this film. I'll be getting some postcards to pass out / hang up / stick everywhere / inundate New England with...Let me know if you'd like to help out. (Oh yeah, I can fit 4 more people in my car aside from me if anyone from my area needs a ride) This message is cross-posted all over the place. Thanks, Epiphany
No-one cares about that fucking pretty face you have. It means nothing much in this life. So find the highest cliff....and dive. |

Are you sure about that? The MySpace site says Saturday, March 3rd at 7PM (not Friday the 2nd) and then Sunday March 4th at 4:45 PM. Followed by the following Friday the 9th at 11:30 AM. Can you please confirm this as I was thinking of attending the Saturday 7PM show.

| | | Oh and I had a "sneak preview" screening of the UE doc in Sweden this past weekend. The crowd really loved it!! There were some locals there who were already exploring abandoned mines in the area--I think they're were happy to find out about the UE community Here's an article in Sweden's largest newspaper about me and the screening (that's me holding my camera a postcard for the movie). I think it's a good article..but not sure because I can't read Swedish! But the guy who interviewed me seemed to really like it. http://www.nsd.se/...ndex=0&arkiv=False

| | | I speak Norwegian, not Swedish, but I'll have a go at translating the UE part.
Exploring Catacombs The latest creation, Urban Explorers: Into the Darkness, was shown for the first time ever this weekend in Kiruna. In two weeks it has a premiere in California. Urban Explorers are people who explore abandoned buildings and tunnel systems and turn it into a sport. Equipped with flashlights and cameras they descend into deep hallways, break into old factories and examine desolate hospitals. It is a journey of discovery in forbidden worlds. Melody Gilbert has followed them with her camera for a long time and amongst other things experienced how it is to be chased by the police. - There are even groups that have formed, only considering themselves true Urban Explorers. The viewers get to experience a night in underground catacombs amongst skulls and bones, an abandoned space station (not sure about that one! -Draug) and a castle in Scotland. - It was an unusual experience, the night in the catacombs was totally crazy. I have a daughter who thinks I am crazy (not sure about that one either... - Draug). She thinks I'm cool but would never do anything like this herself. |
Not perfect, but there you go. [last edit 2/13/2007 11:17 PM by Draug - edited 1 times]

It is 100%. Melody is a serious filmmaker, not some kid. All of her previous movies are available. This movie is great, hands down the best UE movie ever made. Hopefully many UER members will see it and realize what UE is all about. DSM [last edit 2/14/2007 9:00 PM by dixiesquare - edited 1 times]

| | | I wasn't thinking she was 'some kid', I was going by the fact that many indy releases that don't get picked up by a major company for distro never get to see the DVD market. But it's good to know... I'll be waiting with baited breath

Sorry about that, not really what I meant. It just seems every week there is a new "kid" here doing a movie on UE. This one is legit and really a fair representation of us.

| | | hey pggc- well of course i MUST show this movie in the country that brought us "Europex" and is featured prominently in the movie! i am applying to edinburgh film fest...and i have interest from a documentary festival in sheffield (how far away is that from you guys?)...and one in London. i'll keep ya posted as i find out more, of course. never fear--i WILL be there with the movie no matter what--even if I have to arrange a screening myself for those of you who want to know where else in the U.S. the movie will be playing.....well right now, all we know for certain is you can see it in film fests in CA, Minneapolis, Boston. And we just found out yesterday we're the opening nite film at the Fargo Film Festival! More invitations from festivals will be coming in shortly, esp. after the CA premiere. I'm waiting to hear back from fests in NY (should hear any day now) and DC, and a bunch of other places. will keep you all posted as i hear. you can also check back for updates at myspace.com/urbanexplorers. sorry about the CA dates conflicting with death valley days...i didn't find out the screening dates until well after the trip had already been planned. bummer. and about the dvd's...i have been talking to several distributors that are interested in the doc. i should have an annoncement pretty soon about how/where to get the dvd's. and yes, my other movies are all available for purchase on the internet or for viewing on netflix, so i do think you will all have a good shot at seeing the movie at some point
