two that need work (couple questions)

It was damn cold, but I was bored as I get.

Anyhow, I know these are not so great, and I wonder: could I get much better with the same camera (a point and shoot)? Or do I need a more badass camera? I took these in manual, as 1.5 sec exposures, with an ISO of 400 I think. I have a film camera (old Vivitar) back home, I'm considering having that sent up here.

Please, critique, coach, criticize. Thanks.

It seemed like a good idea at the time...

The first one was my favorite of the two, but because the lighting coming from the tower is so strong, it makes it look like the mormon spaceships have finally landed. (If you ever see a giant mormon temple, they look like spaceships about to take off into the abyss of outerspace.) But I love the building in front, with the yellowed light.

As for the second one, I would wait for the moon to come down further, exclude the building in the front, and take it again. It's neat, how the moon and the building seem to exude the same color of light. I think it'd be a cool shot.

The lit building looks blown out because its so bright compared to the other elements. Try underexposing a little more... Also, if you have the option on your camera, shooting in RAW will widen the specturm of light that's captured, which may help the blown out areas... maybe. Just some ideas.

Leave only footprints, take only pictures... unless its like really cool.
