If you go to the Southeast Forum, you'll see kind of a background for this place.. Steelworks offices. That's about it. More to it, but i don't feel like reiterating it here since i just typed all that crap over there... ANYwho, none from the inside, just some from outside the gate.. I'm scared of drug deals...

It's good that you're trying to improve. You still need practice though. Technically, they're blurry/soft and some (esp. #3) are pixilated and are suffering from JPEG compression. These look like general digital snapshots of a location. As for the actual photos, compositionally they lack a lot (#2's your best). What kind of camera are you using? definitely invest in a tripod. Good luck. Keep working at it.

I agree wtih LHS... the focus is soft (which isn't always a bad thing but when working with archival type shots, it just doesn't work for me.

#1 feels cramped because the trees and building on the left are cut off. There's alot going on in the picture but it feels incomplete.

#2 is definitely the best of the lot for composition. maybe try zooming out a bit more to help out the framing effect the trees give.

#3 It kinda looks like you used a digital zoom on this picture. Its very pixalated and appears to have a bit of motion blur. Not to be condescending if you already know this, but digital zoom generally ='s bad quality.

#4 This shot has alot of potential but with the base and top of the tress getting cut off, it again feels a bit incomplete (I can see it was thru a fence so your options may be limited).

#5 Try taking that shot at a different angle so the reflection of the sun doesn't wash out the no trespassing sign. I think you were going for a blurry fence shot with teh building in focus. If so, try raising the camera over the fence to get your focus-lock on the building, then (while your button is halfway depressed), re-frame the shot.

Keep up the effort! All of your work has the potential to be very good.

Thanks guys!! I appreciate the great feedback!!
yeah 3 was hard to fix... It's grainy because I did zoom and sharpened it so that the name could be seen. That's the only reason it's like that. I was really having a hard time with the fence as well.. kinda limited my options for shots without it.. When I get a chance to be over there without my daughter, I'll walk over to the other side and see if there is a fence. If not, I'll get some that way. Otherwise I may have to leave this location as it is.

Very cool location. I know what it's like lugging the kids around while exploring. My daughter loves to go with me. Sometimes she's more adventurous than myself.

damn is that all that is left of ingalls??

Kabbalah is an undramatic tradition that requires great patience and stability. One of the reasons for this tempo is that everyone has to mature his potential gradually and thoroughly at his natural pace. In this way his life's work unfolds at the right moment in his own and the cosmos's time.

Not bad, as said I like #2 the best. A general hint with #5 is to always doublecheck to make sure your own shadow isn't going to be in the image

So I do not want to reiterate what everyone else has said, so i am going to make another suggestion. I think that some of the shots are kinda interesting compositionally, but i think that alot of our disinterest is due to the subject.

Even being an architect sometimes pictures of the outside of buildings are just plain boring, unless they are taken from a dramatic angle.

When i shoot a building i do a couple of things that might help you. First i walk around the building a few time to make sure that i really understand all of the facades of the building. as i walk around i make mental notes of the areas of the building that i think are interesting. i then go back to those elements of the building and try and shoot them in creative, dynamic, and even dramatic ways.

If you were to do that and them accompany the detailed elemental shots with the overall pics of the building like in pic 4, it would make for a much more interesting set.

Great job though, keep shooting and we will keep helping.

I hope that this was helpful, and didnt sound like i was trying to tell you what to do.

pretty much.. binaryzero said that the warehouses have been gone.. my grandmother was so excited that we found this! she said she didnt even know it was still there!! In the GoogleEarth, there are 2 warehouss out to the back, but i have no idea how old that is on there..
i was on my way to meet my mom when i took these, so they were a little rushed.. I'm getting a tripod tomorrow (and rechargable batteries), so i'll definately be back soon for more at a different time of day. Thanks for all the help guys!! I think I have a better eye for people though.. You'd never think I was photographer for one of our local bands, would you?? ^_~
