|  | | | So when I first looked at this photo I thought the bat and the bat's shadow seemed kinda dot matrix-y. But then I kept staring at it too much and now I'm not sure what bothers me about this photo, but I do know that something is really off and bothersome and I want to know what it is and how to fix it. Trying to "get to know" my camera a little better since I don't know it very well at all, lol. Actually the bat aside...tell me everything thats wrong with this pic and what your advice is to avoid what is wrong :)

| | | | I don't really see anything strange about the bat and the shadow. That aside I have a couple suggestions about the photo as a whole. First off, I would rethink your positioning of the bat in the picture frame (I assume that it was your primary subject matter for this shot).
Looking at it, you didn't choose to place the bat dead center in the photograph. That's a fine choice to make, but it doesn't feel like you put much thought into where it actually fell in the picture as a whole. What I'm trying to say is that it doesn't feel like the bat is placed in the composition in any sort of deliberate way on your part. If it was going to centered, than it should be totally centered. If it was meant to be off center, it should have been moved off that central axis a little more boldly.
The other thing I would say is that since the bat is obviously what we should be focusing on here, you could stand to lose some of the other stuff in the composition. The shadowy areas on the left and right sides of the picture aren't really adding anything and you could pretty easily re-shoot or crop the shot around the bat more tightly and lose those areas. That would bring the focus to your subject more, and if shot it again at a closer distance, it might help you capture some more detail in that bat which couldn't hurt. That's my two cents.

may I suggest you dont like it because of the odd angle the shadow projects against the wall by the slightly leaning bat is , well its just odd.
Odd angles mess with the brain that wants to make sense out of things, sort of like an optical illusion, Ok maybe its just my brain post but larger pics for more detailed photonalysis
