I don't know if the posterization was intentional or not, but it looks awful. If it is unintentional, then what you probably did was overexpose the original images, and then abused the levels, curves, or some similar post processing tool to restore the detail in the clouds. The only way to get shots like these that really look good is to get the initial exposure/ISO right. In #1, the houses are pointing my eyes down, and to the left, out of the frame and away from the clouds. #2 is probably best composition wise. Maybe some of the bottom and left could be cropped out. In #3 the geometry of the clouds is really impressive, but I don't like how the darkest part of the cloud eats up the detail in the lower left.
