| | | It's one of those things you won't really see doing any harm until later on in life and then it will fuck you up. Some don't seem to care about the dangers and some just think it isn't cool to wear one but personally I will wear a mask if I I think a place is gonna be dodgy with some shit in the air. I might look like a right idiot wearing my ubermaskofdoom but at least I will *hopefully* be safe.

not to offend anyone, but thats sissy talk. it takes so much prolonged exposure to asbestos to get cancer its not even funny. i mean seriously, how many UEr's do you know of that have gotten any sort of condition from asbestos. in fact, lets count how many people in general we know of that have gotten cancer from asbestos. your more likely to get cancer from smoking or second hand smoke, but people dont walk into bars with masks on, it really is an unneccasary procaution that really wont help you in the long run considering theres just as much shit in the air we breath outside of UE on a daily basis if you think of all the pollution thats in the air. mold and etc. should be treated the same way, leave it be and it wont cause you problems. i think the only time you should wear a mask is when your in byberry and some douche starts a fire and the buildings burning, then a mask might be needed. other than that, just try not to jump in asbestos piles. Well, I know a few people who have had to take 'early retirement' due to Asbestos fucking them up. Only one is now still alive. Anyway, it isn't just asbestos you have to worry about. Mould spores, powdered pigeon shit and other nasties are sometimes present in these environments. Your lung is a very nice place for Mould spores to sit and they aren't always kind on you. Also, wearing a mask in a burning building is not recommended. Unless, of course, you have an isolated air supply but I doubt anyone takes tanks with them when exploring an abandoned building. Ahh well, we all take risks in this hobby. I just like to try and minimise them.

| | | the mask in a burning byberry was sarcasm, but i see your point. im trying to make people understand that some of them go over the top with masks and are to worried about asbestos. pigeon shit is probably even more of a danger than mold or asbestos, but people in NY are living with that daily. so what im saying is even though it can be very bad for you, there's not much you can do about it if your exposed to other things of equal risk regularly. but seriously, dont jump into a pile of asbestos. p.s. how old are you, if you have friends who have gotten conditions, maybe cancer, from asbestos, b/c it does take a whole lot of exposure to really be affected.

| | | I never wear a mask, the amount of asbestos you need to kill you is ridiculous. Unless your working in a factory that manufactures and your not kicking up huge piles of it or snorting it your fine. When ever in question just remember all of our parents probably went to schools were there was asbestos.. are they dead? Do they have cancer?

It isn't a case of that. Asbestos is fine when in a good condition. It's when it is broken up and hangs in the air that exposure becomes a problem. I know you could argue it isn't a problem until you have been exposed to the particles for a long time but when you have visted a few hundred sites, it all adds up.

Its really not as serious of an issue as you think it is. The amount of time that your exposed to the amount of asbestos in the condition it needs to be in to harm you is ridiculously small. Unless your down in some tunnel breaking down asbestos or kicking up piles of dust then sticking your face in them you are fine.

exactly my point, most people with asbestos conditions are old vets that worked in asbestos manufacturing plants for 20+ years.

| | | It only takes one inhaled fiber _02fcc in your lungs to cause cancer or mesoths ,as far as smoking goes it multiplys you chance by 120%,i've been working in demolition and abatement for 13 years+,I work with 3 co-workers who are showing signs of asbestosis in their lungs in x-rays when they do their yearly physicals, these guys do wear respirators when they work in conditions that UEs explore ,,so you do the math!!!!!!!!!as others say you should also worry about other parastic bugs(Legionares disease and Stacibotris mold ,and pigeon shit!!!!

| | | Just my 2 cents. Personally I hate those damn masks. I have to wear one at work sometimes and they suck. On the other hand I know pigeon shit has some like 60 diseases and I know asbestos isnt fun stuff, so I think id like to have one handy for those times when its lookin gritty.
