| | Abandoned Austin building < on 12/7/2006 7:08 PM >
| | | I found this place while on a random photo trip to Austin. I read an article about it in a paper while eating gelato and figured "hey...might as well go find it!" It ended up being one of the cooler things I've seen in a while. I dont know if this location is widely known or not, but this place has a really interesting history and its a damn shame its supposed to be torn down (for all I know, it already has been!) When I went it seemed as if bums had been in and out of it as I found clothes inside and one of the boards over a window had been ripped off (which was how I got in). Is it ok to actually name it here?

| | | Nice pics. This place is really cool but almost falling down. It's been abandoned since the early 80's when the creek flooded. That's why the building that replaced it was put on stilts. You might have seen it over to the side. Did you go upstairs? Most of the rooms are safe enough but others have huge holes in the floors.

No, I didn't get a chance to go upstairs I was in Austin with my fiancee who was playing the part of "lookout" which really entailed her YELLING into the building every 3 minutes "are you ok in there?" I didn't feel it was prudent to get her yelling even MORE by going upstairs and thanks to the attention she was probably drawing to me I only spent about 15 minutes inside. I'd really like to go back sometime and see more of it, but I dont make it up to Austin too terribly often.

| | | Wow... awesome pictures. Too bad you weren't able to get anymore shots of it. That place looks pretty cool... what was it used for? Was it a school or what? You don't have to name it here, (Even tho it already looks like its been found by the worst of taggers and such) but it kinda resembles an old schoolhouse...?

When I say I'm 'clean and sober', it means I've showered and I'm headed to the liquor store. |
