Welcome! Try posting in the appropriate region-specific forum for ideas around DePere. You should also know that asking for handouts in terms of locations is generally frowned upon in many areas. Don't let that stop you from asking, that's your choice, but don't be surprised if you're met with indifference.

Again, welcome!

Supplies?
Dont get scared away by all scary guys with resperators and grappling hooks.

All you need is a flashlight ( even thats optional ) clothes you dont mind getting dirty and the will to do it.

Dont worry about getting caught it doesnt happen often and you may feel safer with a friend or two.

Trying to win hearts and minds, but willing to splatter them if neccesary.

Insider's Tip: If new to UE and looking to find some hot locations, just say you're filming a movie and are in need of some places to shoot. People will be more than willing to help.

Actualy I am going to re-phrase my question (and thanks for the welcomes): What would be recomended on a budget (im not going into a rusty, asbestos, stinky as sh*t place with a t-shirt and no mask in the night w/o a flashlight), is it better to go at day or night, and is it better to bring a friend? I just decided to ask for areas instead of making another thread. If I don't get anything I'll go to the region-specific section. Thanks! (I hope that makes enough sense, i'm kind of tired right now)

Welcome to the board but before you start getting other posts about your questions, let me first tell you that the questions you asked are like highly debated political issues. Depending on the person, the questions you asked will likely get a vast array of answers. Basically my suggestion is to do what is best for you. Meaning...

Clothes: If you care about getting dirty where clothes that you don't mind getting trashed ruined. However, others would suggest looking like you were just walking down the street and happened on the place and became interested. This is because if you do get picked up by cops/security it is more likely that you be let off with a warning. Clothing completely depends on how you feel about your clothes, the location your going to, and the environmental situation you will be in. Most importantly make sure you dress for the elements, nothing sucks more than having to cut a UE trip short because you lost feeling in your appendages.

Equipment: The only equipment you NEED is a flashlight and that is only if it is at night. Other equipment you might consider bringing are things such as a multi-tool, an air filtration mask, waders, a camera, a camel bag, food, spare batteries, a first aid kit, among a plethora of other such tools; just do a search for 'tools' and you will find many threads on the subject. Again all of this depends on the situation you will be in and the consequences of getting caught with certain equipment. If caught you could be charged with more than a simple demeanor, trespassing, such as breaking and entering.

Time: Again another preference. Day gives you the added light and the added safety that comes with it but also is more likely that you will be noticed going to the place. However, during the day it is easier to pull the I was just walking down the street roll. Going at night allows you to sneak into the place under the concealment of darkness and to me adds a certain mystique to the adventure.

Friends: Bringing friends is a toss up between safety and concealment. Having a friend or two allows for protection against others and against the dangers that you may encounter in an abandonment; unsafe floors, homeless, ect. However, the more friends you bring the harder it is to conceal your movement from prying eyes and also others you need to be concerned about while your in the place. So its really up to you but what most people here would agree with is that bringing a friend or two with you who you know will not ruin the experience is best.

But before you start thinking about all of these questions, you first need to find a place to explore. My suggestion is to just go out and get lost while driving or walk down train tracks; eventually you will come across something neat enough to explore. After stacking out the place you can then decide what you want to do regarding the questions you asked. I hope all this information helps, go out and have fun and don't forget to post back letting everyone know about what you have found.

Thanks for those links but I'm not looking for anything specific right now. I'm just looking for newbie advice, not like how to do this or that

If you'd like a mask for protection against asbestos, you can buy p100's at your local hardware store.

Well fitting, nice gripping durable gloves are a good idea too -- some people like getting climbers gloves. However, if you're on a budget, a good pair of garden gloves or driving gloves with inner layers are nice.

I bring a couple flashlights with me. I use a maglight and have a small spare flashlight tucked away for just-in-case situations.

Some people like to wear work boots or hiking boots. I use steel-toed work boots because there's potential for hidden nails and icky things.

As far as I know there's no way to avoid the smell unless you're going to avoid abandoned buildings and stick to active. Besides, the terrible smell is part of the experience!

If you're going to be doing active buildings, I suggest a good look into social engineering.

If scent bothers you,
You should know UE isnt just abandoned buildings, its pretty much just going where most people cant or wont go.

Smell doesnt really bother me its just what is causing the smell...such as some rotting rat that could have some toxic something on it that does.

The smells are usually caused by fungal or microbial spores, chemicals and the like. If you find it icky, stick to the active buildings.

If you don't like bad smells then don't kick a 10 year old box of fake liquid eggs. That was by far the worst smelling thing I think I ever encountered in an abandonment. It is right up there with burned skin/hair and the smell of harden milk that my college roommate left in a bowl of cereal for several weeks.

You have far more to worry about then things that smell bad. Toxic material ingestion by breathing in but a small hazard compared to falling, or contact with caustics. Worst of all if your not discriminating in your choice of "abandoned" sites your choose to explore, a B&E charge will stop your UE cold. Not to mention break your UE budget.

Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in.
