I can sleep on a rockwall, I have one in my house! Wintervacation= Goal, sleep suspended in air.

what you need to do is combine this:

Extreme in-home adventure!!!!!!

It seemed like a good idea at the time...

remember that guy (Aron Ralston) who spend days trapped in a canyon before sawing of his arm to get free? His autobio says that he tried setting up something with his harness to let him sleep, but he couldn't get any good sleep because of the cut off circulation. Just a though.

It seemed like a good idea at the time...

:: grins:: I also don't really bring climbing gear when I UE...but when I do outdoor climbing I usually am carrying roughly 300+ feet of rope...hence, butterfly coil (http://www.tradgir...q/starting_2.shtml). Pretty much carrys like a backpack, and it carrys easy too.

and I usually use decenders when I'm going down...easier, safer and faster.

Hope it helps

Maybe make it not as bulky.

I've rapelled into places before...I just use a harness and a descender, it seriously couldn't be easier. You can tie some para cord to the end of your rope (or not be cheap and have ENOUGH rope unlike me) and rig up something to get your rope back as well.

It's not like my setup was insecure or dangerous, and the descent was only like 15ft...it was easily survivable and minor. I still always advocate having a TON of rope though, its just so damn useful!

Oh no I completely agree with you...more rope = better (whoever said size didn't count obviously never rapelled off of Rattlesnake Point)

I've just been so used to top roping...three anchors, prussik knots etc etc...

(that's what happens when you work in a climbing gym I guess)

:: grins:: it's not hard to set up top ropes....

besides, setting them up is very little work...

the best part is rappelling down the lines after you set it up!

I do top rope when nothing else is going down and I can only squeeze in a gym session, but honestly, get your ass up on some backcountry rock and do sport! The best climbing happens five feet above a clip.

oh trust me, I know the awesome joys of sport and trad climbing, the only problem is that I never really get an opportunity to do it (closest piece of rock is roughly 1/2 hour + Drive...oh Mount Nemo...) and I have no car.

Ever tried ice climbing?

Oh do I ever want to. I've never lived in the right part of the country though. That, and my hear says yes, but my wallet says no.
