| | | | | | Anyone Ever Use Night Vision Equipment and Infared Floods? < on 11/26/2006 4:54 AM >
| | | Just curious to know to what level do some people take to infiltrate a not easily accessed place. Has anyone actually resorted to night vision equipment and/or invisible infrared floods?

| | | I have an infra red video cam I use to navigate sometimes. It's not like having goggles (which I imagine must be great, if not expensive) and it can be a little cumbersome, but it's very nice for night infiltrations in busy areas where a flashlight might attract attention. I usually scout ahead a little with the cam and signal back to my collegues using an LED keychain.

| | | I would if I could afford the gear. It would be the best way to avoid detection.

| | | I just purchased a 16LED IR flashlight. Im hoping it will work well with my JVC camcorder. A TV Remote seems to work well at VERY VERY close range, so i'm assuming this will too.

| | | 90% of the time Night Vision/inferred will be useless to almost every exploration. I own NV and have only used it rarely where I had a great chance of getting caught where I really shouln't be. However light discipline etc will usually protect you.

| | | Good general advice is not to go at night, if you get caught and you claim UE isnt such a bad thing after all, they're gonna ask "then why at night" pretty much the same thing as not being dressed like at cat burglar just like it says in access all areas The key to others believing you aren't breaking any laws is looking like you aren't. or something like that, or i might just be crazy

This is where I disagree completely. Although most places are easy to get into and even some active places are more accessible in the day time, other places are not. Night time affords several positive effects daylight doesn't. More easily concealed Less likely to be detected Better chance of spoting security(who have lights) before being spoted Probably more lacks security. There are just as many negatives as well. Night vs Day should be choosen by the person and there comfort zone for site, and personality not blanket recommendations.

| | | personally, i prefer to use my x-ray glasses. they are much more affordable than nv or ir, and often times comes with a free box of cereal! perfect for those long cold hours staked out at a high seccer location. 1337 !!!

maybe i was a bit sarcastic. no need to be so harsh, just a bit of humor with no harm intended. to be more plain in answering: i don't use any vision aids at night, nor do i recommend it. it is unfortunate that interaction through online forums lacks the context of emotion, therefore making it easy to misconstrue intended meaning. my sincere apology.

Sorry for biting your head off as well. I occasionally get mad when people on here not just you say things like that on these threads. When people ask if they spy rig in on hanglider threads come around you have all the right, but general discussions and polite questions tend to get this response. Its not you its several other people being dicks that set me off I am sorry.

| | | actually, i do have some constructive advice to add that i did not think of previously... i do alot of cycling and have a pair of sunglass frames with interchangeable lenses: tinted for sun, clear lenses for rain and windy days, and yellow lenses for really overcast days. the yellow lenses also work great at night to brighten your vision using available light and i use them all the time when i'm riding in the dark. they help to improve the contrast and depth of shadows. they are made by smith glasses and are pretty durable; i've had mine for almost five years now, buying replacement lenses when the old ones get too scratched up.

Ignore the criticism. Some people in threads like these are too cowardly to just come out and say they think someone's being a dick.... And yes, I was talking about Mark. See how having balls works? It's awesome!

However by all means any time you feel shorted I will come out and just PM you and tell you that your a bag of shit. If you want to talk shit take it to PM's as PER the agreement.
