There are always going to be people with more skill/talent/experience out there (hell, I know for sure my father could get into places I can't). When someone demonstrates that they actually are skilled, I'm more than willing to learn from them and follow their lead.
When it's clearly a load of shit, then I see a problem with that, and will say so...

I don't really have any thoughts on this guy. It's hard to really understand exactly what happened when you've arrived just after it all ended.
My guess is that he was so over enthusiastic that he would fantasize. He would be so impressed with his imaginative fantasies that he wanted to tell someone, but of course the only way to really do this without looking like a nut (at first) is to just say that you did it.
I used to have a friend that did the very same thing, and it was really annoying because it was so embarressing. Especially when there were other people present.
