Has UE Ever Got You In Trouble?

Today I got in some trouble with a local sheriff when I was exploring a pump station. Story and site are located in this thread:

http://www.uer.ca/...d=1&threadid=38038

I got away with a warning. I am curious as to what other people have received, so I ask this:

If you have ever ran into authority while UE'ing, what was your punishment?

Oh hell yes.

While exploring an abandoned building in Chicago, the owner saw us enter and called the cops thinking we were burglers. The police station was just down the street, so the entire freaking police force came to bust us within minutes. They entered the building, and one of the cops even had his gun drawn (scary!). They frisked us, and asked us what we were doing there. After realizing we were innocent/harmless photo nerds, the cops became very polite and friendly. They said we had to leave, but if it were up to them we'd be allowed to stay. They escorted us outside where the rest of the force had surrounded the building (seriously). They said we could stay around as long as we wanted photographing the exterior, but could not reenter the building without the owner's permission. They then all left, without even taking down our names! Chicago cops are awesome! It's true they really do have more important things to worry about than harmless urbexers.

Another exploration, in some university steam tunnels in Iowa, we got busted by the residence hall staff. They took our IDs and copied down all our information. They let us go after a bit. A month later, a police officer started investigating the incident (WTF!) and called me asking for details. I told him we hadn't done any harm. Interestingly, he'd learned a lot about our trip due to my stupidity in posting a thread about it here on UER (that won't happen again). After a while investigating it, the cop said something about wanting our group to pay for damages supposedly done to the hatch we entered through. We didn't actually damage anything, but the university wanted a couple thousand bucks to buy a new hatch. If we refused to pay, we'd go to jail. I think they just wanted to buy a new hatch because we'd proven their security to be pathetic. Anyways, we never heard from the police again, and never had to pay a cent. I assume they gave up their investigation, realizing they didn't have any proof of our damaging anything (which is good because we DIDN'T damage anything).

More recently, in the Twin Cities, I was involved in a drunken expedition into a freeway vehiduct. We were promptly thrown into the backs of squad cars and had our camera memory cards confiscated. We had to go to court since it was considered a criminal offense (really it was just a glorified jay-walking charge). We got suspended charges on the condition that they'll be dropped if we don't commit the same crime for a year. We had to pay $100 each for court costs.

So yeah, I've gotten into trouble for urban exploration, but I've never been arrested yet, knock on wood.

Oh, so that's why Chicago cops are awesome. I never knew!

Not too long ago, I set off a motion detector in an unfinished university building and had to book it back over the fence before campus security arrived. Fortunately I wasn't carrying anything more sophisticated than a camera (and had recently wiped my memory cards), so when they got there I was quietly walking back to my dorm. I was stopped, was asked a few simple questions, gave a few simple answers, and was sent on my way.

Since then, I've changed my facebook profile picture to a photo of myself in the location. Nobody's said anything yet.

I've also been politely asked to get off the roof of the agricultural science hall.

on haloween day, i thought it would be fitting to explore this abandoned house on the corner of a VERY busy street in broad daylight. smart?...i think yes. after weighing our options, climbing the fence seemed the best way. so there we are, sufficiently freaked out when it became ovious we intruded into bum nantion (not too surprised)we cautiously step inside the wide open back door and after seeing a shopping cart full of bum goodies, we hear a huge crash in the house, as if someone slammed a door shut. we bolt. and run into paul. i immediately begin to explain that we were just curious and wanted to explore and that we meant no harm.

he totally understood and invited us in to look, after asking if we had any pot.

creepiest place i've ever been. he had coushins on the ground, and a tiny little observational, black and white t.v. perched on a termite eaten desk thing. paul had no teeth and a tweak. two guesses as to his drug of choice.we had to get the fuck out of here..BUT WAIT! theres more....we leave, only AFTER he teaches us how to break into his "house" just in case we come up with any pot he can buy. yea. so we almost got in trouble. i was scared. i peed a little bit.

I only got in trouble once. Ended up having to pay a $350 fine. It was my own fault though, I ignored a lot of signs that should have told me to leave. Besides that I was only caught inside one other time, and just told to get out.

Nope. Not one time... I heed all the warnings, use light discipline and thoroughly scout any place I plan to explore.

I once got caught at an old amusment park, it was our own fault, we should have left when we saw the golf cart with a half empty pack of ciggeretts in it, but we didnt and then a cop car rolled up, two of us could have gotten away but we would have left a friend of ours hanging, nothing really came of it, after an inspection tour of the place they realized that we didnt break anything or damage anything and after shutting a gate that was held closed with a piece of twisted wire and a ride out of the park in the back of a cop car we were let go with a warning.

Never had any trouble with the law, never met a homeless person I couldn't get along with.

It seemed like a good idea at the time...

During my limited UE experience i've never been caught, entering, on or leaving a site but have had to hide from dumbass private security firms driving around with their spotlights scanning the rooftops and stuff. Nothing much to worry about...

Oh for pete's sake! Leave the homeless alone. If you see them out and about, feel free to chat with them (they're good for info) but don't go messing around in their camps!

When I was younger, I stole a homeless man's porno mags, and I've always regretted that. These people don't have much.

It seemed like a good idea at the time...

I'm not saying it would be fun picking on him like little gradeschoolers, I'm talking about the shock value, and to realize, hell, someone lives hear, They can give me some decent information.
