Or, you could stay out of places that are alarmed. Just a thought.

What fun is there in that?

after doing a little research, i have found that some true abandonments in my city still have power in order to keep the fire alarm system active. in almost every case, it is city government that eats the cost of keeping a minimum amount of power on, especially in buildings that are located in densely populated parts of town. it's safer than cutting all the power and risking a worse case scenario in which an abandonment might set fire to surrounding buildings that are active. there has been a string of arson over the last few years in my city and this just happens to be the city government's preventative measure. the problem is that fire and sentry alarms are almost always conjoined.
one alternative to entering an alarmed building is to find out who the custodian is and simply ask permission. i realize this takes away from the "adventure" of what some would consider to be true exploration, but it is certainly better to experience a building with permission than to be charged with a possible b&e. i have done this on numerous occasions with positive results. it's also a great way to learn history of a location and make new friends with kick ass connections to locations that i had previously not had access to.

I don't think most people need an in depth working knowledge of alarms though, particularly when they wish to B&E. Not sure why someone would post on the web asking how to if they were going to do so. There are many threads already on these topics anyway.

oh and yeah, i didn't think about this. i agree with you again blackhawk. very good point. i guess sometimes i like to be too helpful with sharing information that i have worked hard to learn for myself.
any beginner asking a question like this is certainly something to frown upon. if you are truly interested in learning something, do a little research! there is a nearly infinite amount of resources and info all over the web. it's more rewarding to learn for yourself rather than have someone tell you.

A lot of systems have battery backup. The majority of alarm systems also have multiple zones, with different types of signals, and they can be monitored or unmonitored. If it's a fire only system, (which it may be, in a building awaiting destruction), it will most likely be unmonitored, and the audible alarms will just go off to let folks know they need to leave before they die.

Please don't be stupid. It might piss me off so much that I have a seizure or something. I hate stupid people.
