| | | Posted by UWSDWF My EDC is a Gladius by Night-ops (got some really nifty features, like a disorientation strobe and peak of 90lumens) but I also have in my collection: Mini-Mag with three LED conversion and a Smartbutton 4D Mag with a side handle on it
6D Mag, it's just ridicously huge... doesn't make it out of the house really and well the list could go on significantly as I am a flash'o'phile and have a stupidly large collection of torches. Anyone who is interested in Modifying or other crazy flashlight/laser stuff check out www.candlepowerforums.com

Check your Gladius they have been known to cause battery leaks, and most of the operators dislike the light now for its constant problems. Just warning you.

| | | Really?... Have these people contacted Night-Ops waranty line? I'll keep an eye out but from what I have heard from ken shaw was that any of the design SNAFUs that have come up have either been corrected or can contact him/N.O. to have the issue fixed ( the only one that wasn't was the quarter in the bezel issue). Just curious if you have not had this occured directly to you, where did you hear about it? cheers

I should say its Battery leak as in power drain. However these guys started the thread in Nov 05 and the posts continue complaining about the same problem up until last week. 110 comments. Apparently if you leave batteries in some they are likely to drain flat within a week or sometimes less.

I can't see what practical purpose a 6D Maglite would serve. It's pretty much a two-handed flashlight.

| | | From the linked site: "Solve the dark mystery using the small aluminum super bright 8 bulb LED flashlight with an infrared laser point that seems to go for miles...well actually hundreds of feet." Can someone explain why anyone would want an "infrared laser point" in a pocket light?

That actually looks like a great flashlight and I belive the laser pointer comes in handy when you are in a place where you aren't able to light the whole distance (like a cave or drain) but you want to know what's further down so you flick the laser around quickly to get a picture of how further away the end of the cave/drain is.

| | | I have no clue about optical systems but I think they are simply referring to the common laser from wich you only see the point and not the beam.

| | | I'm pretty sure that flashlight has a regular laser pointer, and not an infrared one. Infrared light is not visible by humans.

That's what i'm guessing, but it seems odd that the manufacturer would (a) not know what "infrared" means, or (b) knowingly falsely advertise. Man, if i had spare cash, i'd order one, and then call them up and act upset that i can actually see the laser point.

| | | I have plenty of flashlights! I am such a flash light whore! I usually bring 4 mini mags, one led mini mag, I have one of those miner led head lamps that you can switch led to red led. Lastly an mini red led light key chain.

As I said I have no knowledge of optical systems and by the sounds of it neither do you so why continue this debate? Like to blind people arguing what the colour red looks like. If you are so "pretty sure" that it's just a "simple" laser what do tou base your security on? That infrared LIGHT isn't visible to humans? But can you see the beam in a simple LASER? I'm curious and interested in learning anything so I want to see what you know about lasers and "infrared lasers" other than the thing you keep repeating about ir LIGHT.

| | | Look, a regular laser pointer is in the wavelength of visible light. I think that the laser in that flashlight is just that. If it were an infrared laser, then it would not be visible by human eyes, because that is a wavelength of light that we do not see.
Do you see how infrared waves are below what we can see or "visible light". Regular laser pointers are in the very bottom of the visible light spectrum, and are therefore red, but they aren't infrared. Infrared lasers are used to detect explosives, and chemical warfare agents. EDIT: And, no the beam is not visible in regular laser pointers if by regular you mean red. With Green laser pointers, the wavelength is higher (as you can see in the chart above), and they are therefore brighter, and you can see the beam in the air. | | | Now, that's more like it. I got confused by the fact that there are red lasers wich are entirely visible (visible beam) and lasers wich only have a visible point. But there is another type, the ir laser with nothing visible, right? And the other two types that I was thinking of belong on the scale in the visible light section as I understand, one probably higher than the other? Anyway, why don't you mail them if you're sure it's not ir laser?
