| | Draining in Barrie, Ontario. < on 11/10/2006 12:21 AM >
| | | Ok so I really want to start draining, unfortunately the the only drain I know of is a block away from my house located in a park by the barrie armory. I got into it two nights ago and while it was an interesting little drain, it really wasn't very challenging. I now want to start really getting into it, but I know of no other drains in my area. I've tried all the little tips on finding drains around my home but so far I have found nothing.
I'm just starving for some excitement and I was hoping some from barrie or around barrie could help me out.

We are going to inherit the earth . There is not the slightest doubt about that. The bourgeoisie may blast and burn its own world before it finally leaves the stage of history. We Are not afraid of ruins. We who ploughed the prairies and built the cities can build again, only better next time. We carry a new world, here in our hearts. That world is growing this minute. |

| | | Topo maps/sat images are the best way; follow streams and find the exact point they dissapear. If your town's small you probably won't find much.

| | | Most of my information on the Barrie drains is coming from the now defunct UE CANADA ( WWW.UECANADA.CA ) web site. I wish i was able to contact at least one of the people that were on that web site. Anyways, I'd like to say I may have found one new drain right on the door steps of where I work. I'm hitting it up tonight. I'll give an update tomorrow.

| | | Given that UEC documented quite a number of them in their day, if you can't find drains in Barrie you're not trying hard enough. Not that they're likely to be very large/spectacular, but they're clearly there and navigable.

| | | I haven't lived in Barrie for sometime now, in terms of Barrie's development, but from what I've found the old the better in that town. There are some drains downtown, but they are combine, and at least one large drain flows directly into the lake. There was once a mill down near Peel street, and all the old houses in that area were for the workers. Eventually the mill was washed away, but the houses remained. The drain system that was build in the area has a direct connection to those people's sewage lines; if you think you heard a flush, you did. Sadly the main entrance to that drain was sealed, though there are other ways in. Most of the stuff around the South end of town (the area that was once Holly) is small, filled with animals, and generally not a whole lot of fun. The North end of town, Georgian Mall area, is a little better. However, the fire department does do their confined spaces training in some of those drains. If you want to get your hands on some maps, just go to city hall and ask. That's what we did, and some co-op from Georgian gave 'em to us. They're not supposed to, but you might be lucky. Barrie is not great for draining, and all I can suggest is that you walk around a lot. Parks tend to be fruitful, parking lots/malls not so much. Keep in mind that there are several drains in the city that have shown evidence of human waste. Good luck.
