I head out here at least once a year if not more, it is a good place to hike especially if you have someone with you.

Spent about two hours out here today to see what has changed (ie. disappeared due to growth) since the last time I was here. I won't post all the photos but they are available.

Full Story with all photos

Someone else posted a picture like this, and yes this "bench" is affixed to the ground in the old lake.

The old aviary habitat.

Old crocodile habitat.

Part of the old gorilla habitat, three zones of rock formations and open areas.

Looking down into the gorilla habitat from the top of the rocks.

Old amphitheater stage. The only real structure left standing in the main part of the park, if you can call it standing.

You can still see the paintwork on some of the murals.

You will find lots of litter in places like this

View towards the park entrance from the top of the gorilla habitat.

I remember going there as a kid. Good times. HD has been saying we need to go check that place out. I knew there wasn't much left, but it's more than I thought. I should listen to her more often. definitely on our list of places to go now. Great pics. I like the boat and the bench.

Well I'm always game for a trip out there, seems every time I go I find something new.

Something I do recommend is to get yourself a map of the place, if your treking the open areas outside the old adventure village your going to need it because it is easy to get turned around.

GPS doesn't hurt either

The old aviary habitat.

isnt that stack of rocks surrounded a pit, with a gate leading in through a chute and little corral type affair that was fenced in, didnt they exhibit alligators or crocs in there?

I couldnt think of any other reason for that gate its too small for people

2Xplorations:

I used to have an old property map, one they gave out when the park was open, I'll see if I can find it in one of my junk boxes and scan it. It's was in pretty rough condition last time I saw it. But that circular area with the stones and the perch was the aviary.

The croc pit was southeast of that, between the gorilla habitat and just south of the boat ride.

The pumping equipment in the aviary was for the water type birds.

The Florida location is the only one still opened. They have tried seven times to open and maintain parks across the US and have failed each time.

I think there are two left open but under totally different management/ownerships.

Im surprised they are still operating anywhere even Florida! :-) the company itself sounds pretty unscrupulous

they dumped some poor elephant that got old or expired in the Gulf of Mexico after being fined for animal cruelty

then they lost a shitload of their exotic animals when the placed flooded it was LCS then

then they reopened under the IWP brand, then a flood at the CA IWP wiped out a bunch more animals and this one closed

Amazingly enough, they have run that one pretty well, expanding it into a regular theme park along with a waterpark. It is quite a complex. I went there a few years back and was packed to the gills.
