Wouldn't it be a bad idea to go out to elis island? It being on federal land, and Such a monumental area? All that 9/11 issues and such, and it being such a historic site.

Much of the grounds are opened to the public.

I was just there this weekend. The main building is the only one renovated and turned into a museum. It has been restored very well, but it hasn't been bastardized. It still has most original doors, floor and wall tiles. Been outfitted with security and fire alarm systems and a few modern stairs. But over all it looks great.

There are over 30 buildings on the island that still lay abandoned and haven't been touched since the island's closure in 1954. The best one seems to be the dorms/prison attatched to the main buildings. I got some good photos of it from out the windows of the museum. I asked a park ranger and he said they sometimes open the rest of the grounds for tours, but never into the other vacant buildings. Something about them being structurally unsound, blah blah blah.

I would LOVE to explore the other places, but it seems to be pretty well gauarded and there are park rangers and US Parks Police all over (I noticed a small K-9 training area in the courtyard of the hospital buildings). Anyone can offer other insight? Someone who maybe has explored the other buildings?

This is somewhat dated but whatever, I still like comparison shots that show the same shot one year and then another year.
