Today.

Today I set out to get into this abandoned hotel.
Instead I ended up in this old pharmacy. I went in the basement, found a hole and climbed in. I ended up in these catacomb looking rooms below the hotel but it was completely pitch black and moldy, and you could really really easily get lost. So...no hotel. But I did get these photos.

Then onto the buildings they are going to be demolishing to make a Walgreens. But I only got inside two, and the first was boring.

Wow.
Lay off the HDR.
I hate to be critical, because you have some excellent compositions and concepts but the HDR in some is so distracting that it ruins the shot.
The window in the shot of the stairs is so distracting to me. . .I have no idea what to make of it.
The outside shot of the house looks. . . I dunno? Like a comic book.
What do the originals look like? Maybe a thread of before and afters?

What the hell?
Someone told me this the other day, so I stopped. These are NOT HDRs. Most of them ARE originals.
What is wrong with them!?

I love the way most are composed.
I know they are not all HDR.. . . . but the ones that are, IMHO, are just over the top - it's an opinion. I feel you have ruined the pic with HDR.
The 5th picture from the top is not an original.

No, it isn't. It is the ONLY HDR.

They seem overly post-processed.

1-4 & 8 = Zzzzzz

5 = doesn't really look much like a photograph anymore, but interesting...

6, 7, 9 = overly jacked highlight/shadow. neat, in an 80's MTV way.

personal watermark highly distracting in some.
a color adjustment would remedy that.

I don't know what you did to the 5th one, but I think it's awesome.
For me, it's proof that post-processing can be artistic. I like the way it screws around with my depth perception. People may not like it, but I keep going back to look at it.

don't listen to her. #5 is brutal. you can see literally see the cutout you did on the house to lighten it or whatever.

please calibrate your monitor or something and stick to the basics in photoshop, don't go overboard, it hurts all of us.

Are you seriously arguing with my opinion? I won't deny you your own opinion, but you don't have to discount mine to get your point across.

I think the picture--whether an accident or intentional--has a cool effect because of the cut-out, cartoon-y look that everyone seems to dislike so much. My opinion. End of story.

Robdobi, if your paper cutouts are ok, then I think this is ok. She achieved a similar effect (1/2 cartoon, 1/2 photograph) without having to be able to draw as well as you.

the only difference being my mixed media project was you know, intentionally an illustration, i doubt these photos were intended to be viewed as cartoons. i'm not bashing the photographer at all or your opinions, but #5 just looks absurd.

Great concepts and composition. I agree about number 5, but I've seen much worse post processing work on here.

Edit: I forgot to mention, 1 and 5 are my favourites.

I entirely agree

But if it went even a baby step much further it could have easily crossed that line of overdone.

I think you should:
a) calibrate your monitor
b) buy a better one.

Pic #5: The black-dark grey aren't equel at all where they are supposed to be. *same as the previous thread, otherwise I like the composition.

My god WTF happened here. Yaggy was right on, if this was a theatre show I slept through the first 4 acts, someone took a brontosaurus sized dump on me in the 5th which knocked me clearly from my feet. I floundered on the floor for the 6th and 7th as I feebly pawed the sticky mases of bronto-crap from my eyes. By the 8th I cleared it enough to find I was still lying on the floor staring skyward. At least my vision had improved so I could see the 9th act. By then I'd missed so much of the show I dunno wtf was going on so I just tried to enjoy it.

Really you don't need to try so hard, quit photochopping the hell out of your images. Same as the ones in the other thread - you can obviously compose just relax on the choppage. It's like you're some crazy lumberjack intent on cutting down the entire forest on your first day at work. Do you have a checkered shirt and overalls? I'm always more productive on checkered shirt day - which for me is usually a Tuesday. Early enough in the week to show my hardy-mountain-man enthusiasm without looking like a nerd monday all pumped up for a big week.
