| | | | Check out the Reichsbahnausbesserungwerk (the old railway repair depot). I put the details in the DB and it should be public so that you can see it. Let me know if you have any problems. I was always annoyed that I didn't have my camera with me when I found this place as it's great. It also has a nightclub in part of the abandoned depot. Also take the S-Bahn from Warschauer Strasse to Zoologische Garten. There are loads of abandoned buildings alongside the tracks that you can hop out to investigate. I also vaguely remember a huge office complex in Berlin which was built in the late '80s or early '90s and abandoned before it was finished. Very spooky. I seem to recall it was called "Dienstleistungzentrum Spandauer Tor". You might be able to dig up some information on it. The Palast der Republik (East German parliament building) is being torn down at the moment, so it might be worth taking a look as I believe it's quite a sight. There's a webcam showing the site here:

It's also well worth going onto the roof of the Reichstag (the German parliament building) as the view is great.

I last visited Berlin in April and was actually less than 100 metres from the railway repair facility without knowing about it. I was up on the hill and visited Teufelsberg too.. Quite a sight! (but I can't access Teufelsberg in the DB, only basic member after almost two years, guess I've to be more active!)
Maybe there is someone here from Berlin that can join me on a trip or two too?

Otherwise, there are many legal (but unusual) places to visit in Berlin. It's a very nice town and you just have to choose.
I recommend you to go to Kreuzberg (my favourite district) and Tiergarten. If you're gay (I saw the flag in your profile), just go to Nollendorf Platz, near Zoologischer Garten.
Take a lot of pics of Berlin, please. I'm in love with this town.

I did the Flaktower tour (also, check the UE database) and while it was worth it on an educative point of view, you'll definitely want more (those are guided tours and you can't really roam free).

I'd recommend Kreuzberg too. Most tourists don't go there, but it's a pleasant, relaxing place to stay. That hostel I mentioned, Die Fabrik, is a converted factory right in the centre of Kreuzberg.

I doubt it. I think I remember being told that what was left of the bunker has been completely sealed up. I believe it's somewhere under the new Holocaust memorial.

i guess its a sore subject for the people of germany,and trying to get inside might be pushing it.
if i ever go to germany though,im gunna try it,if i get arrested,so be it. it seems to me like the ultimate UE location

| | | | i got to go to the Reichsbahnausbesserungwerk last week and added some photos to the db. it was a great site, i'd recommend it to anyone who happens to be in the area. the only people i ran into were a photographer and a graffiti artist, and the people who run the club/skatepark next door didn't blink an eye as my friend and i wandered around.
as for the bunker, from what my tour guide told me it's still intact but completely sealed off from the outside world - all entrances have been bricked off, it's been built over, etc. so maybe in fifty or so years when archeologists get to it...

Hi folks, you are right and not right. The "Fuehrer Bunker" (or what remained after the war) is not located below the Holocaust memorial. When they build the memorial some years ago, they found another bunker nearby, but that bunker was part of another building. That bunker near the memorial is called the "Fahrer Bunker" (not Fuehrer), (Fahrer = which means car driver). In that bunker the car drivers were located and all the government cars were deposited there during Nazi regime. This Fahrer bunker was partly removed for developing the memorial site and areas nearby. But when you mean the "Fuehrer Bunker", it was located not nearby the Reichstag, but also some hundred meters away from the memorial site. The Fuehrer Bunker was located along the block of Wilhelm-street at the corner to Voss-street. In Voss-str. was located (with address at Vossstr. 6) the "Neue Reichskanzlei" (New Reich Chancellery, where Hitler had his office rooms). Below that building and below the buildings at the block of Wilhem-street at the corner to Voss-street, there are the remaining of the real "Fuehrer bunker" (the place where finally Hitler commit suicide). There are no parts left which can be visited anymore. The real "Fuehrer Bunker" was on the area of east-german democratic republic, just nearby the former wall. In the 1960er years government of east-german democratic republic decided to build houses for the "working class". On that occasion, main parts of the "Fuehrer bunker" were sealed, and in 1988 (one year before the fall of the Berlin wall) east-german government decided to remove the bunker (before they also tried that in the 1950er to remove the bunker, but they failed). In 1988, with advanced technology, all the ceilings of the bunker were removed at least and all core parts were filled with concrete and earth. The removement of the bunker was top secret when it was done in 1988, but an architect of east Germany involved with removement (his name is Erhard Schreier) documented this by making photos on his own. He published these photos later some years ago, because they are the only real photo documents, which show the Führerbunker on the occasion of its withdraw. Therefore, today no parts of the bunker can be visited or seen, because the bunker is gone. The photo which is shown in this forum (entrance of the bunker) that's just bullshit.
Some tourist guides in Berlin will tell you that there are still some remaining of the Führerbunker, for sure, but I guess they just want to keep the myth of the bunker upright or want to make you to pay attention of what the guide is talking about. That's why they tell you something about some bunkers in that area, but which they do confound (weather they do know it better or not) is the Fahrerbunker (note the "a" instead umlaut "ü" (ue). You need to know german language in some more details to know the difference between Fahrerbunker and Führerbunker. Also note: Spelling of Fahrerbunker or Führerbunker may sound very similar, especially for those tourists who do not understand german well..., and even some Germans have problems to understand the difference between Fahrerbunker and Führerbunker, those will and want never understand...).
