Abandoned Diner and Club in Anaheim

On the way back from scouting the toys 'r' us location, lopeit and I came across a two-for-one special - an abandoned diner and what looks like a nightclub off the 5 at Katella.

The diner looks to have very easy roof access, but most of the doors are chained up from the inside (padlocked). There's one door in the back that we couldn't try. The unfortunate part about the location is how heavy the disneyland traffic is. Even if you found an entry point from the top of the roof, you'd be spotted easily by regular traffic or kids from the del taco in the same shopping center. We got to peek inside and it looked like there was some pretty cool stuff in there and definitely some good photo opportunities.

The club looks like it lost its liquor license (suspension posted on the main entrance) and thus went out of business. We didn't get a chance to try all of the doors but found possible roof access here as well. Again, heavy traffic (although a bit more cover from the north (i believe) side if any of those doors worked. We were in a bit of a rush to get back into town and couldn't stay too long, but were excited about the two new locations.

If you go scouting here, be mindful of the traffic, as it's plentiful.

Good luck and post of your findings.

Did you see the Loves BBQ building on Harbor right next to the 22?

I've always thought that traffic can be your friend. Act like you belong, act like you know what you are doing, don't bother hiding (unless there's the fuzz), and the bystander effect goes into full force.

The club might be cowboy boogie. I used to go there years ago and everyone would end up at del taco afterwards.

http://en.wikipedi...i/Bystander_effect

While people apply it to emergency situations, I've found that it works in most anything. The majority of people will not do anything, unless they have something personal to connect them to it. Like a cop, or the demo guy for a site, someone who will see you and KNOW you are not supposed to be there. Other than that... wearing "nice" looking clothes, looking groomed, walking like you belong (not like you're trying to be some stealthy urban ninja or some streetwise homie), and being in a group of several people all appearing somewhat professional really, really helps. Well, it has worked for me several times in the past, in a variety of situations.

Anyone else know what I'm talking about?

thats interesting...its counterintuitive, but it would work. also theres a bunch of people more occupied with merging traffic at 22/harbor (stupid closed left lane) that you could get away with it.

I considered the bystander effect and yes you're probably correct about the club, I think I saw some "boogie" signs on it when I was checking it out. I agree about the 22 and Harbor, but the 5 and Katella it seemed like traffic was always so slow and what's to stop a wandering eye from inquiring...

I don't know, I'm still a little worried about the location.

I'm gonna checkout the Loves BBQ tomorrow afternoon.

The corollary to that is the theory of stealing stuff from work: If you walk out the front door with it tucked under your arm in full view and strutting like you're delivering it for the company, no-one bothers you. It's only when you try to sneak out back with it under your lumpy trench coat you get questioned
