| | | Recently i've been using my AA mini Maglite a lot because i've been running the stage management for a couple of plays at my student theatre. Maglites are kinda part of the unofficial uniform. So much so that you have to colour code your own with LX tape to stop it getting lost... Anyway, things i like about the Mag: Cheap: picked it up at Home Depot for $10 or something last summer Durable: I must have dropped that thing 1000 times, i used it as a lever, i bashed nails (little ones) in with it, it's fallen down my stairwell at 3AM, i've dropped bits of set on it, i've even let actors (who have the annoying ability to break everything they come into contact with) and so on and it's works fine. Bit scratched, but honestly i think it looks nicer with some scratches. Things i don't like about it: Brightness: Though initially very bright this spiralled down rapidly. Running cost: It eat batteries like i eat pudding. I still might get a bigger one though.... [last edit 11/22/2006 11:05 PM by startedsmoking - edited 1 times]

| | | I think I can sum up this thread pretty well: We got the maglite guys saying "bigger is better", and then we got the Surefire guys saying "It's the motion that matters." You'll be the judge...

I think there is more to it than that. I think people use what they are used to and know. I like Mag, but have tried something new, I got a Streamlight Propolymer, and it's great, but I, like many, don't feel it is as sturdy as a mag of similar size. Some people like the security of a bit of a bigger light that they feel they could use defensively. At best my Streamlight could get a good hearty laugh out of a perceived attacker.. whereas the Mag could possibly cause some pretty severe head trauma. I'm not advocating maglight beatings by any means, but as usual preferences vary wildly.

I NEVER use mine. It weighs a ton and is unnecessarily cumbersome. it offers me no protection against getting caught the security guards/authorities either.

*Edited because, no imprez, I checked. My mag is not 6D. [last edit 11/30/2006 9:34 AM by Twat - edited 2 times]

It's been my longest running nickname, thusly dubbed by my bassist over a year ago. It's just stuck. Short and Sweet, mildly offensive, quite appropriate.

| | | Twat, I must say that I'm still laughing my ass off! It kinda makes me want a 4D but I think a 2D would be better b/c then I could actually fit it in my backpack. But then again a 2D would be less effective against some of the creepers I meet...
Subduction leads to orogeny. Duh. |
