Hello everyone!

Do you live in Wichita? Do you know some cool abandoned sites to explore? Then, let's talk!

I have a few favorite sites...
+Coleman Factory
+Abandoned apartment owned by Jackson Mortuary (now demolished)
+Trains (various within Wichita)
+Junkyards
+Many more

Anyone interested in going shooting together?

I don't live in Wichita, but heard an interesting rumor once that I doubt is true but warrants more investigation.

A guy that I spoke to once about one of my other hobbies mentioned this when I told him I was into UE. There's supposedly a place called the Wichita Catacombs that's in a field somewhere and very old. Sounded like a small maze of underground tunnels. Not sure what the function or design would be. This story sounds fishy to me, along with another story he told me about the Iowa City steam tunnels, but it sounds really cool so it warrants more investigation before writing it off as crap. From what little I know, the geography and geology of Wichita is not the sort of place they would've likely dug tunnels.

These questions go for drewtedlock and/or any other locals that might be on here: Do you know of this? Knowing Wichita, do you think there's much chance the place exists? Do you know of any fields in the city that might have tunnels (yeah this is definitely atypical, but that's what the guy told me).

I highly doubt it's true, but again want to find out more before deciding it's crap.

I want to be different. But I want to be different just like everybody else, because if I really were different, everybody would think I was crazy and weird.

Iowa is Minnesota's bitch. There's an art to pooping.

From what I know there is no such thing as the wichita catacombs so I think thats crap unless its suppose to be in wichita falls wherever thats at, I think texas. Hey drew I live in wichita and was wondering which factory building was abandoned. I know where coleman is at but never really knew they had an abandoned plant over there. Ive been over to that grain elevator behind the oil refinery though, couldnt get too far without cutting locks but its pretty cool.

Slim Jim: I really doubt that there are any tunnels around here. Wichita is a fairly "recent" city, if you will. We were very small until around WWII. I would love to say that is true, because I'd love to go to a place like that but it seems too far fetched. I've never heard of it and I know several UE community members who are far more active than I am. They never mentioned it in our discussions of locations. Maybe Wichita Falls, Texas though. :-\

BKE520: We've been private-messaging. Remind me to get you more details though. And, the grain elevator behind the refinery is completely accessible! Take N. New York Street north from 21st street. Eventually you will cross a pair of railroad tracks and see the lake in front of you and a parking area. Turn left immediately after the railroad tracks. Follow this road and you can walk right up to the grain elevator and actually get back to 21st street from that. I don't advise taking your car because it's kind of rugged terrain and because the workers can identify you faster. I drove around there one time but no one noticed because it was weekend evening hours. I don't suggest going during work times. Walking is best. More mobility anyway. Park near the lake and walk from there. Sunday afternoon'd be perfect.

I attached a rural image for fun. I know it's not urban exploration, but it's still pretty awesome and I think most people interested in UE are also interested in rural areas. It's about an hour north of Wichita west toward Lindsbourg on exit 78. It's between Coronado Heights Road and Rose Hill Road when Winchester (Westchester?) Road switches to Coronado Heights Road. Coronado Heights is a pretty cool place in an of itself. There are several abandoned farmsteads in the area. Everyone nearby out to check them out sometime.
