Stormwater Pumping Station

I found this site some years ago and managed to gain access then. To do so again would require at least two people. It houses three incredibly large motors which drive a series of corkscrew 'lifts.' They take excess water from the lake in front and dump it down the back spillway pictured here. I would love to go back inside if anyone would care to join in.

So what happens if you're inside this thing when they decide to release water from the lake? I know some will sound a siren before they open the gates. I would hate to be inside one of these that didn't. Then again, I'm a little claustrophobic. Where are is this located? Don't be too specific, but the South Region is awfully big. Texas? Kansas? Oklahoma? Arkansas? Louisiana?

It's near Houston. You would know when its ready to start because of the diesels that drive the pumps. Actually though the area where water flows is not all that exciting. The goodies are all inside where it's safe and dry.

think of all the fuel they could save by putting a flood gate and spillway

-------------------------------below the water line!

must be a low spot they need to drain into a less low spot

so why not take some pics if youve been in it ?

Way way back in the day I didn't think to take pictures. I was operating under the assumption I was alone in my explorations. And they do have a gravity overflow also. I think the pumps are for emergencies. But hey this is Texas. Waste Not Why Not.

Any relation to the place described in this thread? You said something about a lake so I am guessing not, but I am in the houston area and I'm interested.

I just took those two the other night. Trying to reaquaint myself with all the familiar haunts. To get inside would require a second person. It is surounded by a 12' fence.

I think in theory they are the same. Holding pond with provisions for extremely heavy rainfall.
