My grandparents are officially cool. We got talking about what Ive gotten myself into in the last year, and I started talking about UE and they said it was cool. THey couldn't think of any places near by, but they're going to take me out for a drive in the country tomorrow to look for places! Nice!

Careful, that's how my grandparents took my brother to the institution.

My grandparents raised me. So I have a huge softspot for grandparents. Though mine don't completely approve of this hobby I think in some ways they live through my risks and knowledge I have gained from UE.

For the longest time, i was scared to tell my parents about UE. I thought they would hate the idea, hate the health/safety risks, and even disapprove of it.
It turns out they think it's a great thing to do, and i've even explored places from their pasts and made them respect UE.
Either way, my parents are very supportive of it, as long as i don't get hurt or in trouble.
Support of parents/family/elders/etc. is always good.

Heh, I've always been completely up front and honest with my family about UEing, and they've been cool about it. I'll never forget when they got me a headlamp and respirator for x-mas. XD

Through talking with my aunt about exploring the nearby institution, I discovered that she and her friends used to hit the same place in high school while parts of it were active! Very thrilling to hear her stories.

It's also a relief to have a friend in law enforcement who thinks it's cool. Should I ever be reported on the police scanner for any reason, I'll know about it.

The best benefit is that, depending on how open you are about it, your family may know where you are should something go wrong.

My grandfather was a steam tunnel explorer back in the day. He likes hearing about stuff I've explored, and has tipped me off to some locations I hadn't known about.

On a related note, by grandfather used to be an architect... By sheer accidental luck, a couple years ago I discovered that dropping his name at the right time to the right people got me unlimited unsupervised access to the VA state gov't master blueprint room. Talk about a kid in a candy store!

I really need to start going underground... It seems so thrilling! I want something new, something cavernous, somewhere that i can get lost. Buildings are too small these days.

My dad used to take me exploring in the old beat up houses where I live when I was little, so one day at dinner this past year I told him about my trip to a prison and some things that happened. He was quiet interested and asked a lot of questions. Since then he asks about what I've gotten into and how. He's surprised I haven't been arrested for UE, but wouldn't care as I was for other stupid reasons already.

My family knows about what i do and even sometimes suggests new locations. And i have my grandpa to thank for getting me started. My family used to go up to vermont every summer and him and i would end up wandering the woods around the ski resort checkin out all the equipment and such. Even before that in the woods behing my grandparents house there was an abandoned wine cellar that they had shown us, although when we were really little the story was that it was haunted.

hah

my parents have been fully aware that I do this for over a decade now...

when I was about 17, my mom got a call from the cops asking why the car was parked in front of an abandoned mansion... so what does she do? calls me on the cell phone to tell me to get out of the area ASAP, and not in an obvious way.

as the explorers who have recently visited the house can attest to, my parents are the shit.

not to MENTION the fact that they got me hooked on Cat Stevens (early work only)

Told my parents a while ago. They were kinda afraid at first, but then they saw my documentary at the theatre and realized it was a positive enfluence in my life.

My mom was the one who got me interested. And she's never UE'd!! We'd always walk past the lister and she'd say "i wonder what it looks like inside...we should go sometime!" and I just gave her this look like 'my mom wants to do something illegal...nice!'
So...we just got back from driving around looking for places since 10:30 this morning after we went to costco and its not 4:14 PM and theres fuck all around here. Most of what we saw were barns, and only one of them wasn't on someones property. We found one place that was very promising until we got closer and saw that someones house was on the property. So here are some pictures that I took today.

THe house is believe it or not the only place we saw...but I couldn't gain entry. The third image is a notice that was in the window. I blurred out the address because I wasn't sure if stuff like that could be posted.
We are headed up to Ottawa on Sunday, and my papa suggested I look up some sites there for me to go and check out! Ill post pictures if I manage to gain entry.
OH! When I took the train down, can't remember what stop it was but l;ike a block behind the station was a big ass abandoned factory that was graffiti'd to hell. Total Jackpot though, looks awsome.

I tell almost everyone about what I do and the amazing thing is, everyone is very interested. I even work with a retired cop and he gives me ideas or warnings about places here and there. You wouldn't believe how much information you can get from people (like the whereabouts of security/cameras) by just being nice and talking to people in the neighborhoods of the places you're checking out.

The lister is incredible inside. Unfortunately there is a part time security guard now. As well as some new well place boards where we used to enter. Entry is still possible, but very hard. I don't recommend trying unless you go with someone who has been in recently and knows her well, as getting in involves climbing and it must be done at night. Also her existence is only guaranteed untill the 14th of this month. After that the final decision whether to demo or not will be made. And LUINA (the owner) wants to demo, even though it is a historical building, and LUINA has their dirty money in the pockets of politicians.

Fuck, I'm going to miss that place. She was my first true love. I'm so attached to her. She is my safe place. When I'm inside it feels like my head can be clear and my problems can't push me down. She makes me strong. I'm gunna miss being inside her walls, and on her roof. I'll miss her smell, and walking down her hallways. I'll never forget her.

(you know you're a ue nerd when... lol. I can't help it! lol)

I told my grandma, but she couldn't quite grasp what I was telling her.

My parents are cool about it, but my mom keeps bitching, "would you get a fucking respirator already? I don't want my grandkids coming out with mesothelioma!"

LMAO! Thats hilarious. My grandparents are sharing my hobby with all their friends, telling them about the adventure they had with me today (We just had dinner with neighbours, actually theyre still there, I bailed early lol. Old people *Rolls eyes*" SO they're asking all of their friends, " (Insert real name) is into this Urban Exploration thing, or UE, which is going into abandoned buildings and such. Do you know where we can find some?" Its pretty funny actually. And being all the old people they are they think for like an hour and just say "not that I can recall" lol ITs awsome though. BUt I dont think they really get it.
