| | | Ah, damn it! Its a C-17 or C-19, I think its called a Nightingale. I'm going to take a wild ass guess and say The old Naval Air Station North of Dallas.
I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread. |

| | | its a c-17 alright, but they still use the NAS in dallas, for helicopters and they designed that runway to accommodate a C-5 so they should put it to use.

| | | Not a c-17, it's a russian plane. The globemaster(c17) is stubbier and does not have any glass in the nose. Looks like an IL 76 to me.

It is indeed an Ilyushin 76 tanker with no tail number or any other identification

| | | definitely Russian. The absence of an ID makes me think it's used for movies. Another hint it's not a C17 (on top of the nose windows) is the shape of the top of the tail (the top stabilisers). Here's another shot of a il-76 :
il-76 are now being sold to Israel, Jordan, and India. But the biggest buyer of these babies is Israel. Best used to drop troops or materials. Or to fight forrest fires. [last edit 7/28/2006 12:26 PM by maZe - edited 6 times]

| | | My guess is that it is at Denver Airport for testing. Denver is currently unofficially considering buying a few of those to use as water tankers for Forrest Fire. Since there's no ID on the plane, I'd say there are testing them. ...Or it was used for a movie shoot. [last edit 7/28/2006 2:56 PM by maZe - edited 2 times]

| | | * UNofficially is correct! The US Forrest Circus tested these in the past. * The IL-76 purchase option is a very hot topic here in the US. * I guess that there is just something UN-American about seeing Russian jets in our skies. That said, I have flown in them before - they seem pretty sturdy and utilitarian, as most ex-Commie Russian hardware is. * The IL-76 is closest to the C-141 NOT the C-17. There is really little comparison. The C-17 is, by far, the most advanced Strategic Airlift frame on the planet (and the price per frame reveals that!!)

| | | yeah, they are nice planes. Had the pleasure of flying in them while sitting in the cockpit. Nice plane. Reminded me a bit of the CL215 and CL415 although no real comparison can be made, I know. Personally, I much prefer the IL to the CL. Trust me I know how much of a hot topic it is. Part of my family is in the business of selling planes at int'l level...

| | | Killer 2x. We have Thais and Germans training here in New Mexico, and it adds a cool international flavor to my hillbilly state. The 16's could be anybody, although if they are going to practice refueling from IL-76s, I'm guessing India, or somebody in that part of the world. Careful about how close you get 2x, you may get a ride in one fo the black choppers!

| | | If it IS a tanker, then it is an IL-78 not a 76. Nice find. What state did you find this in? TX or NM? It makes sense to train foreign pilots here. . . . we make the planes here and the techs and contractors are here so it will be way cheaper. Few countries have as much regulated airspace and no air-defense threat. If that is the case the 78 is the most widely used refueler in the world, so why us a KC135 (which we are soon to replace) when they will never see one. Don't worry about the black helicopters. . . . snap away unless the signs say otherwise. Go us.

Obviously it's Israel. States + Israel = best friend buddies the USA have been selling planes, guns and weapons to Israel for the last hmmm at least 30 years. Israel has the 2nd largest military planes squad IN DA WORLD, after the USA (of course).

Uh, MaZe, why would the US be selling Russian planes to Israel? Wouldn't the Russkies just sell them themselves? And the Israeli AF uses a compeltely different system of refueling their aircraft. Large and easy to kill tankers don't wrok so well when your whole country can be flown over in a few minutes. [last edit 7/28/2006 10:24 PM by Jonsered - edited 1 times]

| | | This has nothing to do with UE BUT: 1) THE IAF is not the #2 world air force - not by a long shot. China has more ground attack aircraft alone than the entire IAF - so do India and Russia. The IAF may be 2nd best but it is far from 2nd biggest. 2) Please name ONE Former-USSR/Russian airframe the IAF operates. I cannot think of one. Looking at their AF is like looking at our own USAF. The Germans have had a notoriously difficult time integrating Western and Eastern air equipment. Bad idea all around. 3) Israel NEEDS the best air force in the region. They are in a daily fight for their lives - the barbarians are at the gates, literally! Thank God America still has the moral courage to stand with them and support them. Have you considered the alternative?? 4) Remember, it was the FRENCH that gave Israel the bomb, not the US. I am still enthralled by FSU aircraft parked in the US. Post more pics as they become available! Thanks.

Wow. That's exactly like Iran saying "we NEED to be the strongest in this chicken-playing game". Israel doesn't NEED to be the strongest. Israel should have just been one country like any others. Thank God they have America to give them weapons so they can kill innocent civilians, UN personel and all other people that have absolutely nothing to do with this shit. Moral Courage???? Are you kidding me?!!! At least if you would have said Thank God America still has the Economic interests to stand with them and support them I might have believed you. Come one. Wake up. All this shit is about one thing : OIL and WEAPONS. Who helped Saddam Hussein to gain power? Who helped Ben Laden for DECADES fight the Russians? Who sold weapons to Israel? You think it's about morality? You've got it all wrong. It's about capitalism. It's about making money. It's about OIL and WEAPONS. You think Israel is all right and everybody else is wrong? You think killing HUNDREDS of civilians and UN personnel, destroying a country and making THOUSANDS of homeless is a fair response to 2 kidnapped soldiers? If you do, then let's put in perspective that the US response to 9-11 makes America look like the biggest sissy on the planet. The alternative you ask? Well, with no weapons, they would hit each others with rocks - that does a lot less damage then a rocket launcher and tanks in my opinion.

IAF : over 900 registered combat airplanes capable of flying Russia : about 300 combat airplanes capable of flying India : (4th largest in the world) over 750 combat airplanes capable of flying China : about 420 registered combat airplanes capable of flying ( + 35 helicopters)
