Right. You're assuming they're up to something and you're calling me a racist? The point I was trying to make was that if you're going to try taking pictures of people (black or white) then you should at least have the balls to step out of the confines of your car to do it. It's a neighbourhood, not a safari.

No, I inferred that the underlying theme of your post was racist. I said they LOOK like they are upto something (read it again if you are still unsure); they look like there is a story to be told here, that's all.

The story could be anything really - they are waiting for a drug dealer to turn up, planning their next prayer meeting, discussing which .COM to invest in, or just hanging around bored.

The effect would be largely the same if they were of another racial demographic.

As for getting out the car and asking for permission to photograph them? Well, way to go, you just lost the spontaneity of the shot COMPLETELY, screwed the framing - and if this is a bad area and they have ill intent? Got yourself stabbed.

Chris...

We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit.

ok i dont think anyone was being racist. i think everyone involved has equal respect for both white and black people. the shot was candid, the reason he didnt get out of the car was because it was impractical to do so.

just dont let this escalate.

that said, i like 9, 23, and 24. i know everyone else has been saying it, but make sure you number them in the future. and make them a bit smaller. and fewer. that way you're more likely to get critiqued. this was an exception because everyone commented on how freaking many you posted. i look forward to more of your pictures.

This is a little difficult, because they're not numbered, but here goes:

Favorites: 3, 14, 25, 30, 31, 36, 40

Do you have a portfolio online?

I like window shots like 18 and 23, but they might be more eye-catching if you shot them closer, cutting out some of the ceiling, and in 23, the floor, to focus more on the window and detail in the chairs.

The photograph is no more or less valid based upon whether it was shot from inside the car or not. Actually framing this with the car windows gives the viewer the sense that they were driving through the neighborhood. Completely different if the shot was taken from street level.

Not to mention, often times approaching subjects means that they'll stop whatever they were doing and just stare at the photographer. In this case, destroying the shot.

If it was a picture of 2 white guys nothing would have been said about it being racist.

Im not racist, the fact that the guys in the picture are black should not even be an issue at all, people who bring the issue up are the racist ones. If they are upto something dodgy, which they probably are by the looks of them (looking shifty), its not because they are black FFS!.

And, if the guy took a photo out of his car, so what? its photography for christs sake, not a big book of rules...its nothing to do with balls.

I hope ive made myself clear...

turk ;)

By the way, there are some good ones, and some pretty dire ones in this bunch..keep up the good work..
