A brief introduction and my first exploration

First, hello to everyone. I'm a guy from Quebec city (so english is not my first language... don't be to hard on me with spelling an grammar hehehe) I discovered this website (and UE) about a month ago while looking for pics of anbadoned alysum.. tought I was the only one interested in that kind of thing at that time... big mistake! So after reading over 1000 post I decided to go do my own exploration. I asked for a digital camera for my birthday and convinces one of my friend to come with me. I have some places in mind, but last night we decided to go check an old but still running hydroelectric power plant.

The place was build a long time ago, closed down for a while and used as an touristic attraction. Now the power plant is running again and people can still visit the place (nice river, big dam, nice view)

We went to the place at 1:30am in total darkness with my brand new Kodak EasyShare C330 which I was using for the fist time. I don't have a tripod and I'm new to photography so the pics are dark and sometimes blurry.. sorry.

This place is supposed to have a guard on duty every night... but we never saw him.

I parked my car in a small street near the entrance of the site and we walked about half an hour to find the first building, the gate where they make the people pay the entrance fee.

Just for the record, this is an excellent post from a newcomer. We rather enjoy reading about places you've been and seen, and will be more apt to take you seriously and offer assistance if you ask. As opposed to those that ask for handouts right of the bat.

Happy explorations and welcome.

WTF indeed.

That's all for now... I'll try to go back and take some pics of the dam.

There are plenty of them around, but with security as tight as it is in this post 9-11 america, all i can tell you is do allot of research into asylums in your area, scout them out, and take along only those who you can trust to 1: keep their friggin mouth shut about the location, and/or entry points, if you ever want to go there again, 2: not destroy shit, or deface a location, and 3:
not rat you, or your comrades out to the cops, or any other authority figure.

Google is a good source of info, so is Dogpile, ( another search engine for those who have never heard of it). So play it safe, and enjoy.

Oh, and by the way, welcome to this wonderful hobby of ours. I'm greywolf45, pleased to meet you.

So we went to the power plant again last night to take a look at the dam. This time the stress was low because we know that the guard (if there is one) is not very present. We followed the sign (last pic of my first post) and arrived at the top of the dam. Once again, no guard.

Our first look at the dam

Now I'm sure there's noting wrong about us being here!

So we decided it was enough. We had some good pics, nothing people can't see normally at day, but cool anyway. But on our way down I spotted something shinnig at the bottom of the dam. We soon realised that it was not something shinnig, but it was light coming out the bottom of a door... an unlock door leading INSIDE the dam! Holy sh*t! I was so stressed that I almost forgot to take pictures.

1. Left, the door we use to get in. Right, corridor to the "high water" side of the dam.
2. Corridor to the "high water" side. Right, ladder we used to go up
3. Filthy hole on our way up
4. Corridor and stairs to go up again.
5. The exit, at the top of the dam.

That's all! This UE start slowly, but what a finish! Maybe we'll go back to explore more inside the dam and take more pictures.

Holly hell dude! That's some righteous active site infiltration! You definitely got the explorer bug. Your first, and second posts with pics from a active site that isn't a warehouse, or some other boring place. I'm impressed. Thank you for sharing your adventure.

Just don't try that in the US.

Well, thanks you! I will try not to disappoint you with my other posts!
Speaking of new posts, I have 2 new sites in mind... one active and one abandoned. As strange at it may seem, the abandoned one is going to be harder get in. There is no security except for the edgy janitor on the night shift in the hotel across the street, but there is no unlocked access. The only way in I found is to climb with a rope on the fire exit stairs and hope there's a way to get inside by the roof... or maybe someone knows how to open a door with a sliding window (the bottom half of the window slide over the top half) fast and without breaking it...

I agree with the others.. that's top notch exploring. Nicely done.

There are plenty of french speakers on the Quebec forum if you want to type in your mother tongue (though, I'm looking forward to reading more about sites you visit and I don't speak french).

Welcome to the site. From what you've posted lately, I have to say that it's a pleasure to have you here. This is AMAZING stuff for your first trips, and you picked a great location. By the way, your English is excellent for someone who speaks it as a second language. You speak it better than most Americans, actually.
Great stuff, glad to have you here, thanks for sharing.

Actually, this reminds me of a tv show.. I think it might have been the first episode of Au Courant on the CBC... that walked right into a hydro generating station in Quebec one night. They just wandered around with the cameras rolling for an hour or so. Right through the front gate.. never saw a soul.

I never watched "Au courant", but I saw the report of that in the news. In fact, it would have been difficult to miss because they made a big deal out of that on TV. At Hydro-Quebec they said they corrected the situation and put guards on every dam/power plants they own. Maybe the guard in this power plant was sleeping somewhere or maybe he doesn't work on weekend...
