Whats the deal with these things, are those safe to use in Surefires and other incandescent bulb flashlights or will they just kill your bulbs?
I've also read that they couldn't make CR123As into rechargeable for whatever reason.. *shrug* Anyone know more about these at all?

| | | | I sell rechargeable CR123s at the store I work for, which is good for people who need to use this size battery in their cameras. However, we have found that some of those high power flash lights that require this size battery will either short out or just not be powered by them at all. I would recommend you research the model of flashlight you have and the compatability with rechargeables before you invest in them (because it's like 60 bucks for a charger and 2 batteries, right?)

| | | | If your looking for those batteries you need to go online. Surfire website sells them for around 1.00 a piece for 20. If you use your light properly the batteries will last a long while. People use the tactical lights like flashlights. There are flashlights on the market that take the 123's that have more lumans then a Maglight, last 60 hours, and are damn near indestructible bulb wise.
You just need to know what you are buying and why.

| | | | 3 volt rechargeable 123's are almost always fine to use in lights that can't take the normal 3.7v (?) rechargeable 123's. After charging however you should wait something like half an hour as the voltage hot off the charger is higher than rated.

These will kill all 123A incand flashlights instantly. A few LED flashlights (e.g. SF E1L and E2L) will accept the higher voltage but noy many.
There are three known sellers of genuine 3.0v 123A rechargeables.

and a Hong Kong-based dealer called 'AW' who sells stuff on Candlepower Forums.
These 3.0v rechargeables will work in many 123A-powered lights but not all. They will not work in lights that have a very tight fitting battery tube (these batteries are slightly wider than nonrechargeables) nor will they work in high power incans like the SF M series. It's best to ask the seller before purchasing.
I use AW's 3.0v rechargeables in my two 123A LED lights. They work quite well but LED lights have a lower power draw than do incan lights.
Depending on which SF light you have, you might be able to use a Pila 3.7v rechargeable battery in combination with a Pila low voltage bulb.
This is about the sum total of my knowledge on rechargeable 123A batteries. If you need more information, come on over to Candlepower Forums and ask the gurus there.
