| | | Hello!! So I've been trolling this website for say, maybe 3 months now, and I'm ready to get myself in the game. I wanted to introduce myself to any other UEer's in the general area, and say Hi to everyone in the region. I'm a little nervous to become an active explorer, but people keep telling me I need a hobby - and this is right up my alley.
Is there a group in the chicagoland area that goes out? To be perfectly honest, I can't convince any of my friends to come with - they all think I'm a nutball. I am going to take some time familiarizing myself with the Illinois/Chicagoland explorations (and explorers) that exist in the database. For the most part, I have not seen an incredible turnout for the northwestern suburbs. I'm surprised no one has gotten to any killer places yet!! (Let's just say, I saw about 15 buildings on the way to the Joliet dragstrip, I was raring to go - surprised when I checked the database and no one had been!) So, Hello Chicagoland!!! Anyone interested in imparting some knowledge to a very very newbie (ANY and ALL is appreciated) please respond! =) I intend to spend the next month planning/scouting/preparing/supplying. I don't want to even BEGIN to think about going out until I get my gear together, and get a buddy to go with. - T

| | | well welcome, i live in mount prospect, and Ive been to some cool places in the area. Alot, well in fact 95% of the places ive been to have either been demolished, renovated to something new. Its the one thing that sucks around here its always changing. So if you find a place, enjoy it while you can, cuz it probably wont be there too long. Alot of stuff wont be in the database mainly because if everyone knew where stuff was, it would be no fun and you always get the bad crowd that goes to these places and vandalizes and whatnot. So its better that there isnt alot of stuff in there. The best bet to find places is PM people and of course explore on your own. But like ive said alot of places Ive been to in this area which were either abandoned houses, buildings, have either been torn down, or are in the process of it. Have fun, be safe. | | | Chicagoland is rather tight lipped about places to people they don't know.. many of the locations aren't in the UER DB.. Theres another forum here: http://www.futurespeak.net/bb/ that deals with chicagoland area, there are some that have stopped coming here regularly so I'd hit both.. As far as UE.. just get out there and do it.. You really don't 'need' any gear aside from a flashlight.. Although I have alot I don't 'need' half of it.. *shrug* thats the best advice I got... | | | yeah, its a little difficult to find information on places here, or anywhere on the internet. most stuff you just have to find, or know people that know it. like pravus said, all you need is a flashlight, maybe a pair of tough gloves, and thats about all.

| | | I recomend boots. If you can't find a buddy to go with you just tell a friend where you will be and when you expect to be back, and if you don't feel comfortable then don't go in. You are on the right track with

If it looks like it would be somewhere you would be interested in and you know how to get in, then just go for it. Don't rely on a database or word of mouth or recommendations (they are all nice ways to learn about spots you may not find on your own but...) if you find it, go for it. Good luck, and just keep your eyes open.
And definitely check out this forum, for the locals. [last edit 8/4/2006 12:18 AM by Seraph - edited 1 times]

| | | You should check out those places in Joliet and report back. Everytime I drive through Joliet my curiousity and urge to explore peeks, but Joliet is about an hour away for me, so I never have a chance to just poke around.
