Also, ham radio equipment certainly does NOT require FCC type acceptance.
Otherwise, no one would be able to homebrew their own rigs.

As long as the rig is only capable of operating inside the amateur radio bands, type acceptance is not required.

This is why we can use surplus commercial gear on the ham bands.... gear that's only been type accepted for commercial freqs.


That may be so in the USA. And that is why I was careful to say "in Canada..." when I made that statement. In Canada, a basic licence holder may not build, modify, or operate non-amateur (ie. commercial, military) gear. Basic licence holders need to buy a radio manufactured for amateur service. As I did also say, this is a technical point that to my knowledge is not enforced.
