| | | These are samples from my final project for Color Photography. I did a little exterior UE on buildings in Syracuse, NY. Please excuse some of the quality, these are scans from 8x10 photographs with a home scanner. The first four are from The Onondaga County Health Building (see UE database), shot with FujiFilm Pro Press 400ISO film: Entrance
Chain
Chair
Doorbell
The last two are from the Van Duyn Receiving Area, currently used as storage for Onondaga Community College (see UE database), shot with FujiFilm Superia 200ISO film: Electronics
Unauthorized

| | | not bad, and i'm a fan of darkness, but when you're shooting a doorbell, too dark is too dark and you lose detail in the black, but this same approach works for the electronics photo. same problem with the rusty stairs. and i'd maybe go for an even lower angle on the restricted door and frame out that stuff in the upper left. try to make it look even more ominous and forboding if you can. entrance is very standard and doesn't hold attention. the chain is lost in the business of the gravel. but if any one of these perceived imperfections you like about your own photos, keep it up and be consistent. you'll find your own style that way.

| | | well, its nice to see pictures of my home town. there is another, older van duyn building one mile east of where you were. it was called the onondaga sanitorium, and its nearby the new van duyn nursing home. i went there thursday. a huge, old gorgeous place in a state of disrepair. here is a picture of it . see http://www.upstate...ry/hospitals.shtml i really enjoyed your pictures, esp the stairs. keep them coming! | | | Thanks for the comments. Most of the darkness in the pictures is caused by scanner quality. You get a lot more detail in the actual prints. Thanks again. Where exactly is this Sanitarium? I thought they tore down the Onondaga Santarium? [last edit 5/29/2006 9:41 PM by lasthourstand - edited 1 times]

| | | there were actually two buildings near each other on onondaga hill at the corners of west seneca tnpk. and broad road, to the east of community general hosp. you are right, one of the buildings, the tuberculosis sanitorium, was torn down, but the other is still there. also, there were two older van duyn builings just west of where you took those pictures, one was the original "poorhouse", built in 1827. it was amazing, but they tore it down a couple of years ago.

| | | I liked it; you can tell print scans right away; don't show up as big no matter what the hell you do. I've never seen this building, maybe because it was still active wh... fuck, I'm gettin old. I think it's good stuff.
I got your tour winner right here pussies, at least he'd crash out trying. |
