Whats up everyone.

Im headed on a European Tour next week: Paris, Rome, Amsterdam, Venice, London, and Dublin. It'll be my first chance to do some real exploration in Europe. Ive already found someone in Paris with a key to one of the 'official' catacomb entrances, so that should be fun. Just checking to see if anyone has any suggestions!!

Paris : definitely the Catacombs ("Official" entrance??? The Catas are off limit so how could there be an official entrance other than the entrance to the Cata Museum? Anyway... good if you know how to enter).

Roma & London : amazing drains (although I dunno about security recently...)

Amsterdam : didn't find much myself quite frankly but if you leave Amsterdam (rent a car) there is very interesting stuff around the Netherlands.

Dublin : Well, you gotta have a pint in Temple Bar! It's not exploration but it's a must. Other than that : The Hellfire club is nice (although absolutely NOT downtown, it's up on the hills, in Dublin 4 if I remember correctly). It is said to be one of the most haunted places on earth (?) and it is also said that is you walk around the building 3 times, counter-clockwise, backward, the Devil himself will appear in front of you. (Didn't work out too good for me I'm afraid). http://www.deadlyp...e_hellfire_cl.html and http://www.blather...ire_club_no_sm.htm

Right in the heart of downtown Dublin, there's the St. Michan's Church is a well-kept secret. Not only this very small church is home to the organ on which Handel practise his major work : The Messiah but the crypts under the church have mummies of crusaders and if you are very nice, you can go down there and, for pure irish luck, shake the mummy's hand (while praying the hand doesn't detach and stays in your hand...). http://www.ireland..._of_st_michans.htm

There is also an abandonned asylum downtown Dublin, not far from the Old Chimney and the french market... Don't know how accessible it is or if it's even still standing today, Dublin is just a big construction field!

Official Catacombs are a museum so you just have to pay to enter. It's divided from the rest of the quarries and there are some interesting things to see in the museum. But the greatest is beyond the walls, of course...
I found that webpage about catacombs and quarries: http://en.wikipedi...Catacombs_of_Paris

A map of Catacombs from that book:

A global and exhaustive survey of the City of Paris underground network (catacombes, quarries, churches, metro, Telecom, sewers, etc.) by a very famous urbangrounder who became one of the major French specialists on underground.
This very complete book was an event at the time of the publication and is still a best seller.

A translation of words in English:
escalier = stairs
fresque = fresco
salle = room
puits = shaft/well
abri = military shelter
