| | Church of Messiah < on 4/27/2006 4:48 PM >
| | | Yesterday, I went to the Church of Messiah building at the corner of Sherbrooke west and Simpson. There were two buildings, the 3917 and 3915 Simpson, both were empty. But inside the 3915 one, it seemed that there had been occupants not so long ago (a squat). I found some bread on a bed that wasn't yet rotten and on which the date of packing was April 15. What's more, there were clothes, sleeping bags, and some personal papers lying around the place. There must have been five to ten individuals in there at maximum usage, it was pretty vast. There also were three 'rooms', with curtains and all. Does any one of you would have more information about this squat, or know something interesting about the place.

I know about the squat. My best friend work with homeless people in Montreal. this place has been squatted since it's been abandonned. Nothing new there. Don't know nothing about the building other than I saw a few old historic pictures.

| | | To nostra-youppi: Yes it is the ruins, but more importantly the old building of the uniterian church.
To Maze: Yes, it is normal to find a squat in such a building, but what troubles me is that it was totally empty when I went there and also that there were signs of a very recent occupation by at least a couple of people. My take on this is that, with the recent condo project on the old church's ruins, the owners send the police or some other security personnel to empty and clean the place up.

Yes, it's the old Erskine & American, which they rebuild almost right next to the original ruins and it's a great church.

| | | Learning about the different buildings and churchs there are on Sherbrooke street is interesting. But it doesn't answer my question, which is: Does anyone has information about the squat, and/or why was it empty when I got there&
