| | | If you checked your site's logs and saw a ton of hits from your school's Physical Facilities and Administration branches? The script that generated this only logs the page that you enter at, and only if your hostname has purdue.edu in it.
This all happened after we left a CHALK tag on an inconspicuous portion of my dorm's roof reading "PURDUE EXPLORATORY SOCIETY - darkism + DarkTreader." I'd say they're on to us, Jerry. Oh yea, and the dates are fine but the times are wrong. A maintenence worker from my dorm mailed me with the simple message "you guys are idiots" in the subject line. Scary. | | | Mmmm... I wouldn't worry a *whole* lot, but, yeah, it'd be a good time to lay low. I get all sorts of wierd IPs visiting my personal non-UE site, including a couple dozen visits from .mil and .gov addresses per month. It's not something I'd worry about. If they're really annoyed with you, they'll let you know in no uncertain terms - not an email saying "you guys are idiots". And what, exactly, was the point of tagging the roof?

| | | Eh, I suppose the best way to explain it is a 'celebratory loss of self-control'. since neither of us drink or do drugs, we had to do something to celebrate... and we were going up to the roof anyway, so we found a nice dark little corner of the roof and did our little sketch, then wandered off... we kinda figured that, since it was just regular chalk, it'd wash away in the next rainfall anyway, so it wouldn't be permanent. So yeah, yet another reason to not tag anything - they can potentially trace it back to you. footsteps light, flashlights bright -~ DT

| | | For you who say you get visits from .mil .gov and all, what does that mean? I mean, I just don't get what it indicates. Does that mean someone came to your site right after looking at a .mil site, or they clicked a link from a .mil site, or what?

| | | He's referring to visits from military networks, the visitor's IP address is in the .mil range. I have an Ip logger on my site, when I first set it up I was paranoid about someone from the university finding the steam tunnel pages. It was never as well designed as darkism's, although I thought about doing some coding to deny access to any UAF ip's. Nowadays I'm not quite as worried (or I'm lazier) and I haven't bothered to check the access logs for a while.

| | | I wouldn't worry about .mil and .gov... most likely bored government employees cyber-slacking. I got 'em all the time on my last web project (a site which saw 300-800 hits a day) which had nothing to do with anything illegal.

| | | Well I get also hits from .mil addresses, but almost no hits from .gov. I guess the US government isn't interested about me Mostly those .mil addresses are looking the historic photos in my site. I once had a visitor from The Cocos (Keeling) Islands. I wasn't even aware that there is a country named like that and that they have a internet connections available. That's the most distant and exotic visitor in my site. I just wonder how he or she found my site?

| | | We do get visitors from .gov and .mil There was a thread about it, but I just couldn't find it again... anyways, I have had lots of hits originate from those areas. Some are just interested folks like Snarg, but some are part of the *watchdogs* who's task it is to search for subversive/terrorist content on sites...

| | | Yes, what I meant was that my site <plug> www.buggrit.com </plug> gets a number of visitors from .mil (mostly .af.mil, oddly) and .gov web addresses. It was a little unnerving the first time... but now I'm just amused at the thought of employees of these various agencies, bases, and whatnot being interested in what I write about. Besides, I had a customer for several months who connected from *.hq.cdc.gov... That was a little troubling for the first few minutes until I figured out who it was. (There's a little bit on the site about terrorism, and bioterrorism, and everybody knows I'm a little bit paranoid. )
